The Chillingworths of Florida
« on: Sunday 30 March 25 09:33 BST (UK) »
Just finished reading the terrible murder case of Florida Circuit Judge Curtis Chillingworth and his wife Marjorie.

"The case was a twisted tale of judicial betrayal. The thugs later testified that a corrupt West Palm Beach municipal judge had ordered the higher judge’s killing." from

My Chillingworth surname interests arise from Oxfordshire, UK.

Just wondered why you had posted if there was no connection??

Chillingworth births in Oxfordshire are not exactly thick on the ground - about 30 since 1837 - so presume you would have known if there was

Presumably this post is also unrelated

This appears to be Curtis' father - https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/23950558/charles_curtis-chillingworth  (Various census records & newspaper articles seem to fit with that too.)

Based on that, Curtis' grandfather Richard was born in England.  https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/23950563/richard_jolley-chillingworth  Various census records are noted here - https://www.familysearch.org/en/tree/person/sources/LR95-CVY  Richard's death certificate lists his parents as Charles G. Chillingworth & Ann Jolly.  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FP9S-PBZ?lang=en

So this may be him in Birmingham.  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QGDG-2BGY?lang=en

Well, as far as my tree is concerned:

Jolly is the name of a sports teacher in our biography not a relative.

Our Chillingworths had hard times when young and were given to the Headington Union Workhouse near Oxford. The reasons for this have yet to be discovered.

Interesting that Rowland Stephenson of the historical bank fraud case also had family in Florida
