Scottish Marriage - bad copy - help please
« on: Monday 07 April 25 10:18 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm trying to decipher the marriage entry for George Edmond Hay and Grace Crombie Dryburgh in 1917, unfortunately the image isn't easily decipherable. I've tried twiddling with brightness and contrast and inverting it to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've had to heavily crop the image up due to rootschat size restrictions. Here's what I guess combined with what I know about them (which makes reading it easier). Any help with the '?'s greatly appreciated:

I suggest that you ask Scotland's People to re-scan the image, using the 'Report an Issue' button above the image when you view it.

There is an Imperial Hotel on Stirling St in Aberdeen.

And I'd go with Jessie for the first name of the witness.

I agree with Margow, ask for a rescan. Dannemois did just recently on this thread and received a much clearer copy.

Grace Dryburgh can be found in Wirksworth, Derbyshire in the 1911 census where she is an elementary school head teacher. The address is Steeple Grange. Her sister  Mary is her housekeeper.
Grace is also in Wirksworth in the 1901 census.

Wonderful! Thank you so much everyone, I'll request a re-scan, I didn't know you could do that (I think I have some others from Aberdeen that are just as bad). All your interpretations are very much welcome. And I'd never have guessed Grace was recently from Derbyshire! Many thanks to you all.

Thank you everyone for all your suggestions, I've now got a rescan (if anyone's interested). Very speedy! Still would have struggled with the marriage venue and her address without your help, so thank you :)

That is much clearer, good service! Though I agree, not sure that I could make out Imperial Hotel if oldohiohome hadn't suggested it.  :D
