I'm looking for a baptism for an Elizabeth Smith c1670.
I have an Elizabeth Smith who marries John Larrett at Lyddington, Rutland 19 Oct 1690.
What is noticeable is that Elizabeth is styled 'Mrs', which seems to indicate Gentry status on this registor as the clerk/vicar either writes ''Gent'' or ''Mr/Mrs''. On the same page, the women who are widows are stated as ''Vidua'' after their name so she isn't a widower.
John is not styled 'Mr' or even has 'Gent' after his name as others on the page do but he does appear to be a prosperous Yeoman as a lessee of the prebendary estate at Lyddington and a fairly sizeable inventory at death in 1724. His brother already married a daughter of a Gentleman and John and Elizabeth's children marry into some local families who on wills were styled Gentlemen.
There is a baptism for an Elizabeth Smith 1672 Lyddington, daughter of John and Margery.
I don't believe this to be Elizabeth as this family don't appear to be styled with any 'Mr'/'Mrs' or 'Gent' on the register.
I have some secondary evidence that may link her to another pair of Lyddington.
John and Elizabeth have two children called Robert and Judith which I believe are named after Elizabeth's parents.
A Robert Smith and 'Mrs' Judith Smith are baptising in Lyddington at this time. They have two children from what I can see, a Robert bapt 1673 and a Mary bapt 1677. Judith is styled as 'Mrs' on the baptism record but Robert isn't styled 'Mr'.
I can see their marriage at Leicester. 'Robert Smith of Lyddington and Judith Pelson of Cadeby' 1669.
Judith is actually Judith Pelsant bapt 1638 Market Bosworth, Leicestershire, daughter of Sir Eusebius Pelsant of Market Bosworth and Cadeby, Leicestershire by his first wife Margaret Twysden. This shows why she is styled 'Mrs' and why perhaps Elizabeth is also styled 'Mrs'. There is also a link to Cadeby with this family. John and Elizabeth's daughter Elizabeth Larrett marries John Ireland in 1715 and she is listed as ''Of Cadeby'' on the license. John and Elizabeth's other daughter Judith also marries at Cadeby in 1725 to Thomas Sharpe, she is listed as ''Of Cadeby''. John and Elizabeth Larrett baptise their children at Hallaton, Leicestershire. Robert Smith dies in 1679 and I think Judith later marries a Henry Dent at Kibworth Beauchamp, Leicestershire 1686. This could be Elizabeth's mothers second marriage as Judith Dent is buried 1715 Hallaton, Leicestershire. This Henry Dent, would be the Henry Dent, Gentleman, who's son is perhaps the Henry Dent, Gentleman, of Hallaton, mentioned in the will of Elizabeth Larrett 1750.
In the will of Sir Eusebius Pelsant of Cadeby in 1684 he does mention his grandchildren Robert and Mary Smith. No Elizabeth, but he doesn't seem to mention other children or grandchildren either so I'm not too worried about that and he might only be mentioning the younger ones.
There's some things which could connect but I'm just missing a baptism.
