GRO Referance number
« on: Tuesday 15 April 25 10:25 BST (UK) »
I have identified a birth via BMD and can see the registry scan but am not sure what part of the information is the GRO number.

The scan referance image is    ANC-04/A-F/1920B1-E-0484.jpg , which part of this is the GRO number?

Can you give the name/year etc

GRO ref for ordering a cert is the Quarter in which it was registered/registration district/ volume & page number

Look for it on www.freebmd.org.uk to get the info

Re reference - Looks like you are using Ancestry.  Is the info from somebody’s tree?

The scan reference you gave is just the name of the image as it exists within the FreeBMD database. It doesn't give you the GRO reference.
To get a certificate from the GRO you need the year and quarter information, the registration district and the Vol and Page number. So taking the example below, the reference for the birth certificate for John Smith would be John Smith 1900 Qtr1 (or Jan-Mar) St Geo East Vol 1c page 347.

Thanks a lot, I had all the information but just didn't know how to put it together.
