stuck on 3rd generation ancestor
« on: Wednesday 16 April 25 03:15 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Can anyone suggest how I may move forward in my research on this particular ancestor?

Caroline Ashton
1821–1877
Birth ABT 1821 • ??
Death 1877 • Ecclesall Bierlow, Yorkshire West Riding

On the marriage certificate, married in Sheffield, names father as Thomas Ashton - fishmonger.
On 1841 Census - says born in county (West Riding)
0n 1851 census - says born in London.
on 1861 census - says born Hull.
cannot find her at all on 1871 census.
Anyone who can push me in the right direction please.
Regards
Sarah

First male child Jonathan 1839 named for his paternal grandfather

First female child Mary 1843 usually named for maternal grandmother. However there is a gap

between 1839 and 1843 and I haven't found another child using the GRO Index  otherwise I would say Caroline's mother was Mary.

Next female child is Keziah 1845 named for John Hadfield's sister who married John Eaton 16 June 1835.
John Hadfield and his family are living with them in 1851  (John Heaton and Keziah)

I think that that 1841 has N for "born in county" - ie NOT born in county.

Bridgehouses (her abode at marriage) was probably the area in the highly industrialised centre of Sheffield by the river Don, at the bottom of the Wicker.
