Hi, I'm stuck and could really do with some insight.
My ancestor, John Wilson b. 1832 (either in Bedfordshire or Northampton) Shoemaker - I can trace him and wife (Matilda Cox) living in Northampton from 1861 until death (in London abt 1911) however, I know his father was Samuel Wilson b. 1802 or b. 1811 in Bedfordshire (according to John marriage entry) but at the time, there are 3 possibilities of parents that are causing a mystery and confusion  ??? ::)
I am unable to find any baptism for John Wilson, with a father of Samuel either in Beds or Northampton and I have do not know his mothers name.
Here are the details:
Most likely my ancestor - Option 1:
1841 Census New St, Woburn, Beds
SAMUEL Wilson 1811, Mary 1816, JOHN 1832, Mary 1834, Bettey (possibly Betsey) 1837, James 1840

BUT, I cannot find another census with these names, this is the only entry. I have tried to search records but the links are tenuous.

Option 2: Mystery - have found marriage record for Samuel WILSON & Zillah (Priscilla) PUTTERILL[/b]
NO 1841 Census
I have found the marriage - 5 July 1832 Northampton (bishops transcripts)
1851 Census Dunstable St, Ampthill, Beds
Saml Wilson 1805, Zillah 1812, Mary 1834, James 1840, Ann 1842, Charles 1844, Henry 1846, William 1848, Eliza 1851

NO JOHN, NO BETSY, I checked the GRO and a few of the children are listed including a BETSY 1837 (the significance of name Betsey goes down 3 generations in my family tree)
The children are born in either Northampton or Woburn/Ampthill.
This Samuel died in 1852 in Bull Orchard, Northampton so I can no longer trace him, Zillah Putterill remained in Northampton and remarried, I can also find Zillah parents in 1851 and 1861 in Northampton.
Significant link: John and Matilda Wilson were next door but one to Zillah Wilson (Bull Orchard, Northampton) which is also the same as Samuel Wilsons place of death - is this proof they are a familial match or pure coincidence? :o

Option 3: Least likely as no John and all remained in Beds. (a link given as a possible by ancestry) WILSON/DILLEY Family, have found marriage record

1841 Census Pike Cottage, Southill, Biggleswade, Beds.
SAMUEL Wilson 1805, Mary 1813, William 1833, Samuel 1835, Lucy 1838, Elizabeth 1840

NO JOHN, I have also checked the GRO and most of the childrens births (after 1837) are registered.

So as you can see, the only record of John Wilson I have is Woburn 1841 and then 1861 ect Northampton, until his death in London. I do not know which Samuel Wilson is his father, who his mother is as I cannot find any baptism records for John.
I am unable to continue until I solve the mystery of which Samuel and wife are my John's parents  ???
Can anyone help? Any advice? Do you have links to these families/ancestors and know if there was a John about?
Thank you  :)

This census you have quoted has Samuel as a Journeyman Shoe Maker and his son John was not bn in Bedfordshire
Most likely my ancestor - Option 1:
1841 Census New St, Woburn, Beds
SAMUEL Wilson 1811, Mary 1816, JOHN 1832, Mary 1834, Bettey (possibly Betsey) 1837, James 1840

Thank you all and apologies, this is my first post and posted both on Beds and Northamptonshire - I didn't realise I could just link it  ;)

I will check 1851 census in Soho, which is plausible as James Wilson (son) and John Wilson moved to Middlesex and that is where the next gens of family are from.
I couldn't decipher the full occupation on 1841 Woburn, so thank you for that.

Do you think that Samuel Wilson and Zillah Putterill are actually the most likely parents of John Wilson?

I should have said 'Welcome to rootschat'

No need for apologies.  We tend to get carried away on here so 2 posts on the same topic start getting duplicate answers, it is probably better just to post on one county board to start with.  Most of us flit from County to County  ;D

The 1841 occupation was actually abbreviated as J. Shoe M.

Possibly parents for this reason

James Varnsverry married Venelia Putterill  on 25 April 1849 Christ Church, Marylebone.

so John Wilson would be nephew by his wife's family?

Would need to track the Putterill family.
