Where is or where was Broadway in Frome ?
« on: Monday 19 September 05 08:47 BST (UK) »
Hello

My family are traceable in Shropshire for a least 60+ years between 1819 & 1881.  Then for some reason they show up living in Frome in the census of 1891.

Then in 1901 they are back in Shropshire, I have never worked out why, maybe it was work, they were butchers.

If anyone can tell me if Broadway exists today or where it was that would be great.

Many thanks

Offline Bryan.

Hi

"BROADWAY, a parish in the hundred of Abdick and Bulstone, in the county of Somerset, 2 miles to the N. of Ilminster. It occupies part of the site of the ancient forest of Roche, or Neroche, and includes the tythings of Capland and Rapps.

If you Google Broadway there some sites with photos...may be of some interest to you.

Hi

Broadway is a road on the West side of Frome if you go to this web site you will find it in square B3

http://www.standbrook-guides.com/frome/maps/FROMEMAP.HTM

You will also be able to see it on the 1900 map, its the road that Oakleigh Terrace is on.

You dont say what your relations occupation was, as that may help solve what they were doing there.

Hi, I live in Frome and Broadway does still exist.  It is long road that takes you out of Frome.  There are a couple of pubs and post office on the road - if you find out more and what occupations your family had I may be able to help you further.

If you want any further info let me know
