Wonder if some kind person could help me.I must be thick as I cant find what I need on Nat Archives site.
Trying to find a service number for my Great grandad Matthew Leadley Peart
Born in whitby Yorks 1887 I have a copy of one of his daughter birth certificates and it states in 1918 he was a deckhand Royal Naval Reserve ( trawler Section). He got Married in 1911 so is next of kin would be is wife Edith Easton possible address`s 68 church st whitby or tate hill pier whitby
Be Grateful if some one could kick me in the right direction so I can send for his service record.Do have a picture of him in naval uniform on his cap tally it says HMS Victory but I`ve been told its the shore base not the ship.
Thanks

Hi Shipwright

As you are probably aware, the Royal Navy Service Records are in the process of coming online for this period (not quite complete yet) http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/

However, as far as I am aware (and I stand to be corrected if anybody knows different) these online records don't include RNR trawler section for WW1 who were not previously RN regulars (mostly fishermen):

For the First World War period, service details of RNR ratings are held on microfiche in series BT 377 , arranged in service number order. Name indexes are available within the series on microfilm covering the period back to 1860.
