Hi,
Thanks for the marriages Saz. Their eldest child in 1901 was about eight years old so I hope they married before then, but one never knows! I think to save on supposition I will get Catherine's birth certificate and that way I'll at least have a maiden surname for the mother. I might get somewhere then... ;)

Hi Michelle
Looks like its a long time since your original post but I just discovered Roots.
Catherine Connell was my Paternal Grandmother even though I only saw her once as a child.
My father James Ramplin divorced my Mother when I  was very young and went to live in Bethnal
Green where he died.
Would love to hear how you fit into the family jigsaw.
Regards
Tony.

Welcome to RootsChat, Tony  :)

Catherine Connell was my Paternal Grandmother even though I only saw her once as a child.

Michelle hasn't been on RootsChat since June 2012 but if her email hasn't changed, she hopefully will still receive a notification of your reply and will return.

If you make at least one more post, you can use the PM system to try to contact her.

From her original post:
Michael Ramplin born circa 1897 son of James Ramplin a labourer was living at 7 Wellington Street, Widnes in 1918.

Michael married Catherine Connell at the Roman Catholic Church in Ditton, Prescot.

If Michael was born in Ireland, then this is the only corresponding birth entry (which you might have). Birth 15th November 1896, registered 13th January 1897.

Subject to the Michael Ramplin being the correct one, then here are births for his older brother and younger sister:

John Ramplin born 1894
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1894/02246/1845572.pdf

Mary Ramplin born 1898

The whole family then move to Co. Galway.

George Ramplin born in 1900 in Gort.

....and in 1911 census with four further siblings.
Residents of a house 30 in Church Street (Gort, Galway)

Think the father James has mixed up the ages of Michael and Mary.

Thanks Kiltaglassan
I always understood anecdotally that the Ramplins were from the Limerick area.
You're the first  to solve the mystery.
Do you know if the name "Ramplin" is essentially Irish or  from elsewhere?

This is what John Grenham shows for the surname 'Ramplin'.
