William Jennings born Neath 1883

Hi,
I am looking for any details of William Jennings, born Neath in 1883.
Parents were William Jennings and Emma nee Chapman, both from Somerset.

He later moved to Hayfield (Derbyshire?) but not sure when.  Could he be in 1891 Glamorgan census?

I have now discovered that William (the elder) moved around South Wales between 1883 and 1892. Two of his other children were born in the area (Cowbridge and Bridgend)  but both after the 1891 census.

Hi Pavane - don't know what you will make of this, but after looking at the 1901 for what I take to be your family, I found this...

JENNINGS Tobias H M 60 - labourer (pipetrack) - England (!)
JENNINGS Emily W M 40 - Somersetshire
JENNINGS John son 16 - labourer (pipetrack) - Preston, Lancs
JENNINGS Maria dau 15 - ditto
JENNINGS William son 7 - Swansea
JENNINGS Lily dau 1 - Cardigan
JENNINGS Infant son 1 month - Preston Patrick

Address: Shared (huts), Preston Patrick, Westmorland

Thanks, but that doesn't look like them. However, they may be related elsewhere, so I will keep them on file.

I now have more names for children of of William (elder) and Emma
Elizabeth b1871 Somerset
Emily b1872 Somerset
Maria b1876 Bristol
George b1880 Warwick
Sarah b 1885 South Wales
Lilly b1890 Warrington
Bertie b1891 Kendal

Looks like I was mistaken about Cowbridge and Bridgend, these were cousins. It also looks like they had left Glamorgan by 1891! Sorry for the misdirection

Hi Pavane - still think there are a lot of commonalities there.  However..

The reference for the census I transcribed should, of course, read RG12 and not RG13.

The only Tobias Jennings I can find online is a Cornish Tin miner, aged about 43 in 1891.

I cannot find a suitable Emily, assuming that she got married between 1881 and 1885.

But I agree they do seem to share some names with the family I am researching. Emily, John, Maria & Lily are  in both families.

However, I DO know of some strange errors in records, for example one case where HUGH has been transcribed (in or from) from the census as URIAH! Tobias could perhaps have been Thomas!

Sorry, I think I am misleading you entirely!

I had a look at your family in 1901 to see who I was searching for.

The census above IS the 1891 for Tobias and family - I have seen the original, so the name is correct.  Whether it is your family or not is a different matter!  ;D

Just looking for either family in earlier censuses without any luck - do you have them in 1881?

No, your are not misleading me.
Also, my information about William and family is from a private communication from a member of the family descended from William's brother Thomas, not census records.

I am beginning to suspect that there are errors in this information, because it shows William getting married in 1860, when Emma born 1849 would have been 11! 1870 looks more likely, since first child was 1871
