Hi Newbie

Wouldn't you believe it - 2 Frederick Marsh's about the same age in Horningsham in 1841  ::) I think this is the right one, because the other is married by 1851 and has a more sophisticated trade than the usual ag lab!

!841 - HO107/1177/10 Pottle Street Horningsham
James Marsh - 40 - Ag Lab
Hester Marsh - 40 -
Frederick Marsh - 20 - Ag Lab
James Marsh - 15 - Ag Lab
George Marsh - 15 - Ag Lab
Elizabeth Marsh  - 15 -
Henry Marsh - 10 -
Ellen Marsh - 6 -
Sarah Marsh - 1 1/2 -

All born in county

1851 to follow ....

No probs Newbie,

Here we are - looks like William must have died though......

Ref HO107/1177/10 Folio 7 Page 7  West Common, Horningsham
Sarah Marsh - 40 - Independent
Frederic Marsh - 20 - Chairmaker
Both born in county

In 1851 we have -
Ref HO107/1843 Folio 399 Page 19 -West Common, Chapel Street, Horningsham

Frederic Marsh - Head - Mar - 31 - Turner (pill boxes) - Wilts, Horningsham
Ann Marsh - Wife - Mar - 26 - - Wilts, Horningsham
Edward Marsh - Son - - 5 - Scholar - Wilts, Horningsham

The only possibility for mum Sarah I can find is this, rather puzzling one.....

Ref HO107/1843 Folio 386 Page 40  -West Common, Horningsham

Sarah Marsh - Head - Mar - 54 - Husband a gardener - Wilts, Horningsham
Elizabeth Marsh - Dau - U - 26 - Servant out of place - Wilts, Horningsham

So - not a widow? Where has the husband been for the past 10 years? Certainly not in Horningsham, at least as far as the indexes show...

The other mildly interesting thing  is that Sarah is living next door to Lambert Trollop in 1851

Do say if you want any other bits of this checking  ::)

Best wishes

Angela

Hi Angela,
Thanks very much for looking for Sarah and Frederic, poor Wiliam :(
Just a thought re the 1851, in the 1841 are there are other Sarah Marsh's of similar age, happens sometimes....
I wonder why she says she's still married, I'll have to go and check for a death of William.
Thanks
Newbie

Hi Newbie

The only other Sarah Marsh I can find in Horningsham in 1841 is 1 year old! Youngest child of James and Hester that I listed before. That's it! So it does look a bit like the Sarah without a husband but not a widow might be the right one. I wonder if domestic life got too much for William and he did a bunk??

 Yet another little mystery......

Have fun

Angela
