1861 for Clacton comes under TENDRING district.
sorry, no MARY JANE aged 14 on the index.that doesnt mean she wasnt there, do you have her parents names or siblings?

update...there is a mis spelling for Jame age 13 born Clacton on the  1861 index.
so i took a look on the actual census and its for a female JANE living with her father Joseph and mother Charlotte and other siblings at MAGDALANE GREEN,CLACTON.
Also, another family of Carringtons living next door if thats any help?

Although named Jane , her BC clearly records her as Mary Jane. Her parents are Joseph Carrington & Charlotte nee Littlewoods - I have sent you a personal message Jaq and hope you don't mind.

She was called Jane in 1851 census too. FOlio 214 Great Clacton

Joseph CARRINGTON 28 Great Clacton
Charlotte 23 Tendring
Jane 3 Great Clacton
Emely 1 Great Clacton

This Mary Jane carrington is coming to  nicely - she was a naughty girl though and had a child out of wed lock it was to be her only child as well although she did marry a few years after the birth of her daughter Rosanna 1864.

Now just need to order Joseph & Charlotte's MC and carry on up the Tree lol
