1841 and 1851 St Harmon & Rhayader
« on: Wednesday 28 September 05 12:39 BST (UK) »
I am looking for Thomas Jones born c1846 in St Harmon or Rhayader. I think I have him in 1861 living with his grandparents John and Margaret Jones in Cenarth St Harmon and I believe his father's name may have been Benjamin, who would have been born 1820s I guess.  If I could find Thomas in 1851 or Benjamin in either year it would help a lot.

(He is NOT the Thomas Jones born Rhayader 1846 son of John and Mary living in North Street in 1861.)

Any help would be gratefuly received,
Thanks
Helen

Hi Helen,

I found the following in 1841.  As you probably know, Nantmel is not far from Rhayader or St Harmon, so it's a possible match.

1841 Census Radnorshire
Hundred of Rhaeadr
Township of Maesgwyn in the Parish of Nantmel

JONES, Benjamin,  25, ag lab, Y, Thimble Hall, f10/p14
JONES, Elizabeth,  25,  Y, Thimble Hall, f10/p14
JONES, Benjamin,  2,   , Y, Thimble Hall, f10/p14

I don't find Benjamin in Nantmel in 1851, so it's likely he was in Rhayader or St. Harmon by then.  Unfortunately, I don't have the 1851 records for either.

Hope this is of some help.

Hello Helen,

This posting caught my eye as two of my Morgan ancestors were born at 'Thimble Court' Maesgwyn in 1843 and 1845.
