Where is Mount Savage ?
« on: Wednesday 28 September 05 23:25 BST (UK) »
One of my ancestors, Henry Nippers, is variously shown as born in Llanhilleth, Mon (1901 census), Llanfabord, Glam (1881 census) and Mount Savage, Glam (1871 census).
It would help me to determine if this is the same person if anybody could help identify Llanfabord or Mount Savage, neither of which I have ever heard of.

Do you have the census references so that others may view the transcriptions - just incase they have been mistranscribed ?

Hello Olinda.

Looking at the images Mount Savage is correct
The other place is Llanfabon.
In 1891 Henry`s place of birth is stated as Nelson.
Nelson was in Llanfabon parish.
There was a residence(Farm?)  near Nelson called
Mountsavage.
Have a look at thefolowing website
Do a search for Nelson glam
Go to enlarged view
Mountsavage is to the east of the word Nelson
and east of Werncaiach

Thanks Rhys ansd SS.
Rhys's information seems to confirm that the Henry Nippers on the 1871, 1881, and 1891 censuses checks out fine. Whilst he is variously described as born in Mount Savage, Nelson and Llanfabon it seems these are all in the same place.
This leaves a question over the Henry Nippers in the 1901 census. He is shown as born in 1871 but at Llanhilleth, Mon. He is living at 2 Wood Street, Abercarn with his wife Lear (nee Morgan) and three children.
Can there have been two Henry Nippers' born in the same year and in fairly close proximity ?.
Presumable Rhys when you found him on the 1891 census he was still single and living with his parents. I believe the Henry Nippers/Lear Morgan wedding was in September 1871 at Newport, Mon.
Thanks again for your helpful observations.

Thanks Rhys. That's interesting because it shows that Mary Ann (Nippers) had remarried and become a Davies.
It still leaves me struggling to decide whether this Henry Nippers is the same person who married  Lear Morgan in 1891 and is shown at 2 Wood St Abercarn in 1901 census. (ref. RG13, Piece 4968, Folio 103, Page 29, Schedule no 165).
This is the only Henry Nippers I can find on the 1901 census but it seems odd that his birthplace is recorded as Llanhilleth, Mon (maybe just an enumerator's error ?).

Hi
Bite the bullet and buy the marriage certificate.
The registration district is the correct one
for Mynyddislwyn
His fathers name should give you the answer.

Thanks Rhys. I'm sure you are right.
I know the parents of Henry (Llanfabon, Nelson, Mt Savage). They are Hen(e)ry and Mary Ann from Malmesbury in Wiltshire.  I'll get the wedding certificate for the Henry (Llanhilleth) which should make things a little clearer.
I'd always assumed the Nippers side of the family would be easy!!.
