Shropshire 1841/1851 lookup for Gallear/Gallier
« on: Friday 30 September 05 13:28 BST (UK) »
Hi, I need someone to help me find William GALLIER b1830 in Dawley/Wellington in the 1841/51 census.  He married Jane HISTON b1836 born in Dawley.

William's surname is either GALLIER/GALLEAR/CALLEAR.

Around 1855, his first child was born in Staffordshire so he may not have been in the 1851 census.

Thank you kindly
Heidi

Dear Jean

I really appreciate you looking that up.

It looks as if that is my William....interesting to think that his name was Callear.  It has changed with every generation down to my great grandmother.  These people made it very challenging to track them down.

Thank you so much for both the baptism record and the census.  You did more than I asked which is much appreciated.

I presume that because you didn't list any census material for William Callear in 1851 was because there wasn't any.  Thank you also for providing me with his wife's family.

Kind regards
Heidi

Hello Heidi,

No I didn't find anything for William in the 1851 census, but I don't know how complete my info is, so that doesn't mean he's not there. I too have Callears in my tree from this area.

John Callear born 1852 Lawley (Wellington) was the second husband of my G Grandmother Sarah Evans born Dawley Magna 1856.

Good Luck with your search

Jean

Thanks Jean

Just out of curiosity, William was apparently born in either Dawley or Wellington.  Are they near each other?

Was Callear a common name in those parts?  If not, then we too could be related somehow.

Kind regards

No Dawley & Wellington aren't that far apart, as for the surname Callear being popular there I don't know.

The cd I have for the area has 119 entries for the surname Callear.

Dear Jean

Would it be easy to search if William Callear had any brothers and sisters born in Dawley?

If it requires you to go through each baptism record looking for his parents, Joseph and Rebecca, then don't worry about it but if it is easy, I would appreciate this.

Kind regards
Heidi

Hello again Heidi,

I've already checked that for you, there are no other baptisms listed with parents shown as Joesph/Rebecca.

Sorry
Jean :'(
