1851/61/71 lookup please - Rudkin
« on: Wednesday 05 October 05 12:12 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm looking for more information on my Gt Grandmother Elizabeth Rudkin. who married William Gabb in Beeston on July 7th 1873, had 2 children Elizabeth Mary Gabb & Wiiliam Arthur Gabb.

She died in Beeston in the 4th qtr of 1899 age 56, & therefore was born about 1843.

On the 1881 her birthplace is also given as Beeston & FreeBmd lists a 2nd Qtr birth of an Elizabeth ???? Rudkin.

Any information would be appreciated.

Hi everybody,

Looking at the results produced by Tania for the 1861 census, I concluded that Mary Rudkin was widowed and married George Booth. So I needed a former husband.

Elizabeth was born in 1843, and a Mary Sardeson married Henry Rudkin in Grantham in 1840. At least 2 Henry Rudkin deaths are recorded, 1849 & 1851.

I can't find a wedding for George Booth & Mary, which might be strange, as the family grapevine says he had money.

Moreover, a Henry Rudkin was born to a William Rudkin & Elizabeth in Leicester in 1818.

William Rudkin married Elizabeth Henley in Leicester in 1817.

Cogitating hard.

Bob,

Who would Elizabeth Rudkin the elder then be according to your theory? Wife's ex-mother in law? Would she stay at Mary's new husband's? A pity it just says boarder - isn't she more likely the mother in law, ie Mary's mother, with Mary's maiden name being Rudkin?

Hope somebody can do a 1851 look-up ...

Hi Tania,

That's what I think. Mary would have been 21 when Elizabeth was born in 1843.

The Mary Sardeson who married Henry Rudkin in 1840, was born in Lincoln as Maria Sardeson in 1822.

But any other information especially from the 1851 census would be very welcome, and maybe help to untangle this conundrum.
