dilema

Hi All
I have a William Pollard born c1863 in the 1871 census. He then shows up in 1881 as a boarder (shop Boy).
In the 1881 census I have another William Pollard born c1875. Was it a "done thing" to name your children both the same name? Their is 2 sisters in the family, but, neither of them would have been young enough to have illegitamate children.
Thanks .........Iris ???

Maybe the shop boy wasn't the same person as the first one you found;  maybe the first one had died and they had another child and gave him the same name?  Just a thought.

Thanks Loo....had thought of that, but, the first one got married had children etc:  No trace of the second one apart from in the 1881 census. He could have been born to the sister who was living with them in 1871 census, will have to check her where abouts in 1881 etc:
Oh well....just another lost piece in the jigsaw ::) Have to trawl through and see if I can find anything on cityark
but thanks anyway......Iris  :)

Hi Iris,
What is the relation of the lads to the 'head' of the family?  I'm sure you've chewed on that but, again, just a thought.

Best

Iris,

Have you looked at the actual census image?  If not, it might be possible that a) he was enumerated twice and b) the transcriber made an error in the date and typed c1875 instead of c1865.

The folks who transcribed the 1881 census for the LDS did an excellent job, I'm sure, but I have spotted one or two errors.

Regards,
Josephine

Thanks for the replies.
The Williams were both down as son to head of house.Maybe the 1881 should have read 18 not 8.
Will have to use my brain and try and do a bit of maths ( always my hated subject at school :(), good job they invented the good old calculator !!!  ;D
Thanks again and best wishes......Iris

Hi Iris,
Let me get back to you in a moment.  I'm having a problem with a tomcat who seems to think the garden belongs to him.
