1871 census
« on: Thursday 06 October 05 17:40 BST (UK) »
I have the birth certificate of my grandmother Catherine LLewellyn born Pontypridd 1872. It states that her father is Daniel LLewellyn and her mother Ann Davies. The only marriage I can find is a Daniel LLewellyn to a Ann Lewis 1855. But in the 1861 census for Pontypridd there are two Daniel LLewelyn's married to a wife named Ann. Believe the family living in Pontyyrhun is the Ann Lewis. Would any lister be so kind and see if they can locate the other Daniel LLewellyn family in either the 1871 or 1881 census.I have looked at the 1881 census and cannot find the family , but might have a better chance if they are located in the 1871 census. In the 1861 census there is Daniel ,wife Ann and daughters Sarah and Margaret and son Carodock. Any assisted would be most appreciated.. Alun

This is one i have found ,
no wife listed on this page.

Daniel Llewellyn   Birth:  JUL 1815  , Glamorgan, Wales
                             Mar:  26 AUG 1872

Some are spelt with LL --- LL { twice }some LL then L .
May be worth considering the alternative when researching for this name.

Sorry i have not got access to 1871 census.

This could be their marriage in Pontypridd District or it could mean they are both Witnesses to a marriage.

Hope one of these helps you.

Hi there,  Alun
This is what I've found. The marriage still remains a mystery but!
1861 census Merthyr T. 7 Glantaf Rd.
Daniel   1832  (LLEWELYN) woodcutter
Ann       1831
Elizabeth 1855
Jemimah  1856
Evan        1858
William     1860

1871 census     (LLEWSLLIN)
Daniel     age 40               born Llanwonno
Ann                40              Kendle, Ebbw Vale, Mon.
Jemimah         15
Evan               13
William            11
Mary Ann         4
Daniel              2

1881 census (LLEWELLYN)
Daniel         woodcutter and stone quarryman
Ann
William      1860
Mary Ann   1866
Daniel        1868
Catherine   1873

1991 census
Catherine was living with hermarried sister
Mary Ann Walters married to Morgan (that's what it looks like)

Familysearch.org gave these results
Ann Davies christened 23.12.1832 at Bethesda Welsh Calvinistic Methodist, Kendle, Monmouth
father Rees Davies
mother Rebecca Prosser

Daniel Lewelyn (diff spelling again)
born Llanwonno, Glamorgan 20.07.1832
Father Evan Lewelyn (Daniel named a son Evan)
Mother Jemima Mathew (Daniel named a daughter Jemimah)
married 5.10.1819, Llanwonno, Glamorgan (LEWELIN spelling for marriage)

Hope this is of interest. I'll have another dig for the marriage. Being that they had Elizabeth in 1855 possible marriage is 1854. As they were living in Merthyr T in when Elizabeth was born chances are that'll be the locale of marriage.

Regards
H

Hi  Thankyou so much for the information , you are brilliant. This family is what I believe to be with the mother Ann Davis, not Lewis as I believed. but as stated cannot find the marriage.  But what does amaze me is that when Catherine'S 1ST child Gwladys [ my father's eldest sister] was born in 1872 at 6 Common Road . Pontypridd ,the informant of the birth was Mary Ann Walters. Was there no record of the other Daniel LLewellyn with wife Ann and children Sarah 1855, Caradock1858 and Margaret 1860. in te 1871 census. Thankyou Alun.

Forgot to note down that they were living in Jersey City, New Jersey. I can't access the original to see the town of birth. Sorry
