Elizabeth Whitehead 1891 census
« on: Friday 07 October 05 02:40 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Could I please ask for help finding the following person

Elizabeth Whitehead born 1890. Her father's name is William and he is listed as a coal miner.  The family was in Worksop when Elizabeth got married in 1910.

I know this isn't much to go on but if anyone can help I would really appreciate it even if there are more than one family that meets the above. It will give me somewhere to start.

Thanks,
Debbie

Thank-you so much Alison for finding Elizabeth on the census and finding her parents next door was a great bonus, not one I expected.

You are very welcome.   If you like I can look up Elizabeth's ancestors  in earlier censuses (till '61).

best wishes, Alison

Hi Alison,
I hated to ask but yes I would love to get any earlier info on the family, if it is not too much work for you. I'm not sure how you have to search.

Could I please ask one other favour.
Looking for George Henry Revill on the 1891 census. He was born in 1865 in Ch. Gresley in Leic. I'm not sure if your census covers the whole country or if I have to ask this question on the Leic. List.

Many, many thanks,
Debbie

Hi Debbie,

I'm delighted to help as much as I can.  I remember when I started researching my family tree how much others helped me!!

I'll give you the info in dribs and drabs.

I think I've found your George Henry Revill though he wasn't born where you/we expected.  Would have ignored him if it wasn't for his brother born in Worksop.  So far I've found him in '71 .   If this looks like him let me know and I'll see what 81 and 91 look like.

Alathia Revill abt 1863  Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Daughter  Doncaster  Yorkshire

Amos Revill abt 1861  Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Son  Doncaster  Yorkshire

Elisha Revill abt 1832  Ferry, Lincolnshire, England Head  Doncaster  Yorkshire

George H Revill abt 1865  Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Son  Doncaster  Yorkshire

John Revill abt 1860  Worksop, Nottinghamshire, England Son  Doncaster  Yorkshire
Joseph Revill abt 1867  Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Son  Doncaster  Yorkshire
Matha Revill abt 1833  Hawipole, Yorkshire, England Wife  Doncaster  Yorkshire

bye for now, alison in NZ

Hi Alison,
Those last names really threw me off.
The George Henry Revill I had was born in 1865 in Ch. Gresley and the son of Henry(HY) and Hannah and had sisters Clara, Gertrude & Lillian. This is according to the 1881 census. I then found that this Hannah died in 1884 and Henry remarried Sarah?? although I couldn't find where the marriage took place.   Clara also died in 1885 and according to the 1891 & 1901 census Henry & sarah had 3 other children but I couldn't figure this out as 2 of them were born before the first wife Hannah died. I think it is time to sit down and really figure this family out. I will see if I can find this new George on the 1881 census if you can look for him on the 1891.

Here are the Whiteheads in 71:

Eliza Whitehead abt 1862  Langwith, Nottinghamshire, England Daughter  Carlton in Linrick  Nottinghamshire

George Whitehead abt 1836  Warsop, Nottinghamshire, England Head  Carlton in Linrick  Nottinghamshire   Coal miner

George Whitehead abt 1864  Scarcliffe, Derbyshire, England Son  Carlton in Linrick  Nottinghamshire

James Whitehead abt 1849  Langwith, Nottinghamshire, England Brother  Carlton in Linrick  Nottinghamshire   Groom

James Whitehead abt 1870  Carlton in Lindrick, Nottinghamshire, England Son  Carlton in Linrick  Nottinghamshire

Jane Whitehead abt 1868  Langwith, Nottinghamshire, England Daughter  Carlton in Linrick  Nottinghamshire

Sarah Whitehead abt 1839  Carburton, Nottinghamshire, England Wife  Carlton in Linrick  Nottinghamshire

William Whitehead abt 1866  Langwith, Nottinghamshire, England Son  Carlton in Linrick  Nottinghamshire

Here (I hope!) is George and parents in 1861 in St Mary, Nottingham:

Red Lion St, Star and Garter Yard (!! what a wonderful name)

William Whitehead, head 57, boatman born Nottingham (as are all family)
Mary Ann Whitehead, 59, wife,  Lace hand

George Whitehead, 26, son, married, lace maker
I wonder where wife, sarah was?it's also a fairly big change from lacemaker in 61 to coalminer in 71 - i do hope it's the right family!

Emma Whitehead, daughter, 20, married, winder of cotton

Caroline Whitehead, daughter, unm. 16, lace hand
Eliza Whitehead, daughter,unm.  14, lacehand
Emma Guest , 7 ,no relationship given, b. Sheffield Yorkshire

That last entry is interesting because I also found this in '61:
Sheffield, Yorkshire ?Porter? St
George Whitehead , head, m. 25, woodcarver born Notts, Mansfield
Rose A.  23, wife b. Liverpool
William ,1, son, b. Sheffield

I imagine that somehow they are all related.

I'll have a look now for the Hempstocks

bye, Alison

Here is another???   George H Revill in 1891 in Newgate St in Worksop:

George H Revill 26, m. house grate fitter b. Blyth, Notts
Mary F. Revill 23 , wife b. Worksop
George F. Webster son in law!! (they often wrote this instead of stepson), 7, scholar, Worksop
Harry Revill, son 5
Frank Revill, son 1
Henry Smith, father, widower, 56, traveller, Wakeley, Notts

This seems more like the one you are looking for - I wonder if he is under "Smith"  in 1871 - i'll have a quick look
