help!!
« on: Friday 07 October 05 13:59 BST (UK) »
hello there,

I wonder if anyone has any information that would help me,

I am trying (ha-ha) to piece together my Grandfathers line,

His name was James Magee , born (mullagh) Tamlaght Finlagen,
22.12.1916
His Father is listed as Robert McGee (note change of spelling)
His Mother was Maria McGee nee Morrison
they are both buried at the church in Ballykelly
along with many Morrison's,

apparently Maria Morrison's mother was Rebecca Morrison? (possibly unmarried)
But am unaware of the parents of Robert McGee
I believe Robert was a catholic but changed the spelling of his name and became protestant?

I recently paid a visit to Limavady, unfortunately I didn't have time to go up to the church at ballykelly as I was doing My Grandmothers line (Gordon) at drumachose parish church,

I did get to speak with some older members of the family who are keeping very hush hush about things!  so I'm banging my head against a brick wall! whether this was because Rebecca was Unmarried ( and apparently never wed any of the children's fathers!) of which I don't know who the children were or because they changed from catholic to protestant,

I have found a Rebecca Morrison, dau of James Morrison and Eliza Clarke (signed by a Maggie Morrison born 21 Jan 1874 in Tamlaght Finlagen registered 14 Feb. 1874,

could this be her??

any Help with unravelling this mystery would be appreciated,

many thanks
Tracey

Hello Tracey,

When did your ancestors change from the Catholic faith to that of the Protestant faith? If it was pre 1912 magees shown in the Ulster Covenant may be of interest to you. http://www.proni.gov.uk/ulstercovenantsearch/results.asp

Best Wishes, Christopher
