« on: Sunday 09 October 05 05:52 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Would someone please tell me where I could find more info about this person details as below?

John Tull the younger of Preston Candover, cordwainer lately hired as a servant to Sir Abraham Hume is listed as a Militia man
Date    17 Dec 1779

I found the details via this Hampshire website

http://calm.hants.gov.uk/DServeA/search.htm

but I don't know where to go now to find more info about John who may be my ancestor.

TIA,
Candy

Hi Candy,

The reference you have found is from the catalogue at Hampshire Record Office.  It may be worth contacting them to ask if any further information is likely to be found on the certificate such that it would be worth getting a photocopy.  It already tells you that John Tull came from Preston Candover and that he was probably the son of another John Tull.  However, you need to work backwards from what you know if you wish to connect John Tull to your tree.

Hi Nell,

Thanks for your reply, yes I agree it gives his location and that he is the younger. I have worked back to an ancestor John Tull but no confirmed dates for him yet other than the b m d & bapt details of his son David and have numerous records of David's descendants & their siblings (David, John's only known son, had 10 children). There are several John Tull chaps to choose from in and around Hants/Berks. Yes, I will contact the HRO as you suggested to see if they have anymore info. So far my research has confirmed that my 3 male Tull ancestors were all cordwainers.  This one from Preston Candover is a good candidate until proven otherwise.

Thanks again for your help/advice :)

Cheers,
Candy
