Baptism Look-up - Ruth SIVIER born Pulborough
« on: Monday 10 October 05 22:53 BST (UK) »
Hi,

If possible could someone see if they can find a Ruth SIVIER born in Pulborough around 1804/5. On IGI the only Ruth that shows up is one bapt. in Heyshott 1801, which seems wrong on three counts -

Firstly it just seems too far away from Pulborough.

Secondly there is a marriage in 1822 in Heyshott for a Ruth SIVYER (presumably the same girl from the IGI), while "my" Ruth SIVIER seems to have married Richard SCUTT (b1798 Thakeham), in Arundel in 1826 and is listed on 1861 Arundel census records as born Pulborough. (SMI listing for Arundel marriage states that she was of the parish?)
and finally the year of birth is out, although admittedly only by a few years.

So I'm thinking there's two Ruth SIVIERS. Can someone help me find my one? :)

Hi Gougy -  This might muddy the water but - I looked at that IGI entry and checked it against the SMI - guess what, the SMI has

William Aulbury of Graffham married to ELIZABETH Sivier (NOT Ruth) otp on the 4th Feb 1822 in Heyshott, witness Thos Aulbury.

The only Ruth Sivier on the SMI is yours...
Ruth Sivier sp to Richard Scutt widw bopt in Arundel 21st April 1826.  (both of this parish is a porky pie ;)

Looked through all the marriages for Sivier on SMI lots in that area, Heyshott, Trotten, Harting, Rogate all West of Petworth, none this side close to Pulborough.

Last year I contacted the parish secretary for the church in Pulborough . I had visited the church looking for my ggrandmothers grave but could not find it.I had reason to believe that her father may have been buried there too but did not know when he died.
I rang her up and told her the story and within a few hours she rang me back with information and inscriptions enabling me to send for a death cert. She was very pleasant and helpful. I do have her number but how do  go about giving it to you privately.

Hi Gougy and Ringrose,  It would'nt be a bad idea to contact Pulborough just to make sure Ruth did'nt come from there.

we discovered last night that Ruth actually gave her birthplace as Tillington on the 1851 Census!

Can anyone think of a reason why in 1861 she then says Pulborough.
Bearing in mind that Sivier is a relatively uncommon name but does appear in Rogate, Trotten, Harting and Heyshott areas - all close to Tillington.
