6th foot regiment

I have a John Dalton/Dolton who was a seargant in the 6th foot regiment.  I got this info from his wife's second marriage entry in the parish register.  John died about 1827 in Cape Town, South Africa, his wife was from Wexford, Ireland so perhaps he was also.

Does anyone know how I could find out more about him from the regiment information?

The Regimental Museum is at St Johns House,Warwick,CV34 4NF.Phone number 01926491653.
These museums don't normally hold information on individuals, but they would be able to provide information as to where the regiment was etc at the time in which you are interested.

The 6th Foot was amalgamated with Warwickshire - check out this site - it might give you some ideas!!

I think I have found a source of info for John.  The Family History Library catalog has a microfilm collection of

"Soldiers documents : service documents of soldiers, containing particulars of age, birthplace and trade or occupation on enlistment, a record of service, including any decorations and the reason for discharge to pension, l760-1872"

There is a film for John's regiment, so hopefully he's there.
