Meneen mystery
« on: Sunday 16 October 05 21:09 BST (UK) »
Meneen is the second name of Emily Hine, b.1852 St.Thomas to Henry Hine and Agnes nee Algar. I know that a lot of second names came from maiden surnames etc., but I can find nothing to explain this one.
Can you help?

Was there any Irish blood in the family?  There is a Meneen Bog in County Galway that has recently been designated as a Natural Heritage Area!  :)

STATUTORY INSTRUMENTS.
S.I. No. 569 of 2003
Natural Heritage Area (Meneen Bog NHA 000310) Order 2003
"The Order recognises part of the lands known as Meneen Bog in the townlands of Fahy (Longford By), Longford (Longford By), Meeneen, Tiranascragh and Tullinlicky in the County of Galway as a Natural Heritage Area under the Wildlife (Amendment) Act 2000."
Researching:
Waycott, Fewings, Piper, Burgoyne, Johns, Phillips, Paddon, Streat;
Morrish, Rowdon, Pike, Lowder, Flood, Parsons and others.
All in glorious Devon!

I haven't found an Irish link yet, but I'm still tracing back the maternal lines for both Emily's parents, so who knows?!
Any further info. gratefully received.
