Thomas Morris Cilrhedin
« on: Wednesday 19 October 05 11:17 BST (UK) »
Hi can anyone help.
I have found my great grandfather on the 1901 census as being born in Cardigan Cilrading.
 Is this Cilrhedin?
He  is 51 Years old.  A Furnace stoker. Married to Ann. Her maiden name is James on my grandmothers birth certificate.
My Grandmother is Sarah Jane Dicks 22 on the 1901 census.
Ref RG 13/5070 Page 18, living in Gower.
In the 1881 census  I am unable to find him.
Grandmother was found living with her uncle John James in LLanelly.
In 1879 she was born in The union workhouse, LLanelly, but an address given was 25 William Street.
The only one I can find is Thomas Morris an Iron Moulder (lodger) born Carmarthan, wife Sarah A Morris living in Clase, Glamorgan.
Thanks
Nutcase :)

Hi Nutcase,

and welcome to rootschat  8)

I have had a look at the 1881 census and there indeed doesn't seem to be any more likely match, especially as they have a son Thomas of the right age with them.

Also, they are in Clase and they are to be found in Clase in 1891 (RG12/4472 Folio 62 p. 15 ) and 1901 too.

Perhaps it was the landlord who gave their data to the enumerator?

I don't know if you have already searched 1871 and 1861 but IF Thomas was indeed born in 1850 in Cardiganshire, then there is one perfect match for him in these 2 censuses (son of Stephen and Elizabeth, living in Elerch, born Llanbadarn-Fawr).

Also, FreeBMD has this possible marriage:
Llanelly September quarter 1872
Thomas Morris to either Ann Evans or Ann James.

Hi Tati

Wow did not expect such a quick answer.

Have you the details of the 1891 census as I live in lincolnshire now?

I did find those details of ELERCH in 1861 & 1871 but I was unsure if it was the right area.

I will check out the bmd one.

Is there anyway of checking out details of the LLANELLY workhouse and why she would be born there and still have an address on the certificate?

Thanks again

Nutcase

Hi Nutcase,

Sorry I don't think I can help you with the workhouse issue. I notice the address on the cert is the same as the one she is in 1881. The workhouse seems to have been in Swansea Rd. (Now don't go imagining I'm familiar with the area - I just typed in 'workhouse' in the address field on ancestry site).

As for the census details, please watch your private message box.
