Possibly you mean the Newland Homes.  These were on Cottingham Road, and continued as a children's home until relatively recently.  I think if you google on Newland Homes Hull, you'd get some hits.  I can possibly find out where the records are kept if you're stuck.
Godden in East Sussex, mainly Hastings area.
Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.
Webb in Bildeston and Colchester.
Wesbroom in Kirby le Soken.
Ellington in Harwich.
Park, Palmer, Segar and Peartree in Kersey.

Also try "Port of Hull Sailor's Orphanage. My grandfather & his brother were there from 1921- 1927 before they both came out to Australia as teenagers. I think they come under "The Sailor's Chidren's Society." My Aunty wrote to then 26 years ago requesting information about my grandfather & his brother & they were able to give us some great info!

I think I read somewhere that when they(Sailor's families' Society) do sell off the newland estate which is now under way any records will be handed to Hull archives.
