Hi I have just registered to use RootsChat.com and seen your message about Edmund Bogg. Edmund Bogg born 1806 Sheerness is the GG Grandfather of a friend of mine. She has lots of info on this family if you are interested. How are you related to the Boggs? Regards Barbara

Edmund Bogg was my g-g-grandfather born in Sheerness on The Isle of Sheppey. His parents were John Bogg and Ann Glenville. Recently found he had a brother as well, Thomas. Edmund had nine children. Eldest  another Edmund ,Thomas, Caroline(sometimes Catherine), John Glenville Bogg (my g-grandfather)  Emma, Deborah King Warren Bogg, Charles, Henry, Eliza Louise.  Have lots more info!

Would love to hear from you!

Did you get my message last year? Edmund Bogg is my g-g-grandfather and I have done lots of work on his family tree. His son John Glanville Bogg was my g-grandfather!

Jean is also researching him. We have swopped lots of info!

Frances,

I am researching my family tree, and have found that an Edmund Bogg is my g-g-g-grandfather. I am presuming that this is the same Edmund Bogg you refer to, as I have the extracts for the 1851 and 1861 censuses showing Edmund and Ann Bogg born in Sheerness and Mevagissey respectively, with a daughter Mary Ann, born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1840. Mary Ann married a James Woodard in 1866 in Plumstead.

Can you give me any information about Edmund's career? The census refers to him as a [Chelsea Pensioner]? Mary was born in Dublin, I note that Catherine was born in Ceylon, but most of the family were born around Woolwich, Kent.

Many thanks in advance

Alan

Hi Alan

If you search the catalogue of the National Archives for BOGG with reference or series code WO 97 (army discharges) you will see an entry for Edmund BOGG born Sheerness served in the Royal Artillery 1827-1850.  Age at discharge (1850) is given as 44 so that would be his army discharge papers which can be requested via the internet for a fee.

I have a copy of these papers if anyone wants it!
It only amounts to barely half an A4 page but interesting!
