John Dicks at Crockerton Deverill Wilts
« on: Monday 24 October 05 11:09 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help?

Iam tring to trace any connextion to John Dicks my G.G.G.father before 1851
In 1851 he was in the 1851 census at Wick and Abson Gloucester area age 59 years old but he states he was born at Crackerton Deverall.

Would this Crockerton Deverill be a possible place as it is not too far away.

Also his wife Mary aged 49 years says she was born in Lancaster is there anywhere similar there.

Hopefully nutcase  ::)

Here is the 1841 entry....This has John not born in County but rest of the family born in county. Crockerton Deverell sounds good. If you got these POB from a census transcript hopefully when we can see the scan it may be a little clearer. Are they deceased by 1861?

Hi krisesjoint

Thanks for the 1841 info. Thats great!! I believe this is my family.

Where would I find his birth if Crackeron was the place?

Someone did find in the 1901 rcensus a place called Longbridge which also had crockerton as part of it.

John I think died in Abson on 12 Jun 1853 aged 56. This info was from south Gloucestershire Burial index.

The 1851 info was from a transcription.www.rootsweb.com/~cotswold/wick-abson51.txt

I have might found David in Chipping Sodbury aged 26 in the 1861 census,
also his brother George age 19 but I have not verified this.

I am unable to find Charles in 1861 as yet ( he is my G G father) I believe he moved to wales but I am unsure when.

Gratefully nutcase :)

Thanks Krisesjoint

Thanks for the 1861 info, it does look good.

I also found this Charles on the 1861 on- line but they had his age as 36. Does it say married on your info?

All this info you have found for me is so good,

Where can I find info on births on here, do I have to put the questions somewhere else on this site?

nutcase ;D

Hi Nutcase, Sorry I forgot to put in marital status. Yes it does say Married. I just added it to my entry. His age is 30 not 36.  You may need to order the film in at your local LDS library. The only John Dicks listed born Wiltshire at about the right time is in Idmiston, 1793...I checked the 51 image and it definately says Cro(a)ckerton Deverall and Lancaster....Sorry....Kris

I thought I'd add my two'pennorth.  I have ancestors from that area.  Some are recorded in Deverill Longbridge and some just say Crockerton.
Any idea what sort of place it was in the mid 1800s'  or what it is like now?  Is it near Warminster.
Thanks Eileen
