Jireh Chapel
|
 |
The Jireh chapel was built by public subscription in 1805 and is one of Lewes's few Grade One listed buildings that has recently been restored.
This timber built building is quite unique; its north facing wall has the largest expanse of mathematical tiles to be seen anywhere in Sussex and the wooden interior gives the building a true non-conformist flavour. The celebrated William Huntington’s tomb lies in the small graveyard.
The 1851 Religious Census of Jireh Chapel, Lewes, Independent.
Free Seats 450; others 500 - total 950 sittings.
Attendence was Morning 650, Evening 250
No officiating Minister in the evening, Service conducted by the managers, one of whom was Ebenezer Morris. | |
