I haven't been on here for a while so I'm hoplessly out of date.

How long has the 1911 census been online?

It hasn't demolished my brickwall though, unfortunately!

The Common Room / Desperate for help to find birth:- Gourlay,Fife
« on: Monday 13 November 06 14:45 GMT (UK)  »
I am getting quite desperate to solve this conundrum!    ???

My Great X 3 grandmother Agnes Gourlay died giving birth to her illegitimate child Agnes Kirk (who was brought up by her paternal grandmother) on November 9th 1838 age 23years in Ceres,Fife.

I am unable to locate a birth for Agnes Gourlay..........which by my reckoning should be 1815.

I KNOW
 a) that she is NOT the Agnes Gourlay daughter of David Gourlay and Barbara Porter...........she went to America and married.

b) She is NOT the daughter of John Gourlay and Elisabeth Sinclair........they sailed to Ellis Island from Dundee.

c)John Gourlay and Margaret Mills had a daughter called Agnes but she was born in 1800.

d) John Gourlay and Lillias Black had a daughter called Agnes too, but she died on 30th October 1835 age 22 years in Logie,Fife.

I have Agnes' death from the parish records.............but it doesn't tell me who her parents were.

Any help no matter how small will be  truly appreciated or any advice to point me in the right direction

thanks

Sue

My grandaughter asked me today what had been the greatest invention during my lifetime for a holiday project she is doing..........she also asked whether Florence Nightingale was alive when I was a child!! ::)

I think I had to admit to the computer....what would we do without them?

I could think of a few things mobiles, hovercraft etc......anybody else got any more ideas?
