Notes
The baptisms suggest that the Lander family must have moved to Rottingdean between 1838 – 1840.
Futhermore, Joseph may not have cared whether he was born in Albourne or Rottingdean and just told the census enumerator the first thing that came into his head.
Joseph above (born c1836) married Lucy Moppet Dec 1861
Side note.
Lucy Moppet was an illegitimate child and at birth was given her mother’s maiden surname. Although her parents married within weeks of that birth, her baptism certificate also has her as Lucy Moppett. In later documents however, she takes her mother’s new husband’s surname and becomes known as Lucy Hide. John Hide (Lucy’s presumed father) is named as her father on the above marriage certificate

His first wife was Emily Eason (m Rottingdean June ¼ 1885)
Emily was born circa 1862 and bapt St Nicholas, Brighton Sept 1862
It is believed she was the daughter of William & Susan Eason. She died in 1889)

John’s second wife who he married in Brighton (June ¼ 1893) was Frances (Fanny) Harriett Vine of Brighton, born circa 1864 and baptised August 1865.
She was the daughter of Edwin & Mary of 11 Black Rock Cottages, Rottingdean (1881)
The couple produced Percy on 29 December 1893
