Hi i am having trouble finding the marriage of Joshua Marsland to Mary Burdekin. The first child being born 1849 so presumably marriage c1848. They lived  in Chorlton on Medlock Lancs. Joshua was born stockport and mary sheffield yorks. I have searched BMD no such luck! can you help me find them please..... Jools.

       Hi Jools

I have had no luck finding your family marrying in Cheshire, It was normal practice to marry in the parish of the bride, I would say that Sheffield or Manchester (first child born there) would be the places to look.

            Hi
It would seem that when I checked the 1861 census it says that Elizabeth was born in Hough Lincolnshire, not Lancashire. It is likely that they would have married in Lincolnshire or Rusholme areas, as their daughter Harriet was born in Rusholme c1829 I would suggest they haven't moved from that area and you should look there for an 1851 census lookup.
You need some local knowledge, if you post on the Lancs board at this link you should get some help. http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,233.0.html

regards and good luck

Could you please see if there is a marriage for John Clayton and Ann Grady (possibly "O'Grady")?  They had their first child, Mary Jane, in Stockport in Apr/Jun 1845.  Ann was born about 1823 in County Mayo, Ireland.  I can't find any marriage record for them at the Cheshire BMD.

I'm not sure where the marriage would have taken place, but my ancestors mostly lived in St. Mary's ecclesiastical district, Stockport First sub-registration district, if that helps.

Hi and thank you for your offer of help.

I have very sparse information I'm afraid.  On every census between 1871 to 1901 and also her marriage certificate Margaret Anne Kent birth date works out to be 1845 and her place of birth is Hinderton, Neston.  I have failed to find her birth entry in the indexes, nor have I found her in either the 1851 census for the Neston area or 1861 census for Cheshire or Lancashire, and she was a servant in the 1871, having moved to Wavertree by then, so I also have no idea what other family she has except for her father named on the marriage certificate as Thomas Kent, Blacksmith.

Is it possible that your records could show a marriage for this man in the 1830/40s hopefully in the Neston area?  I know there is one with Anne Mills in Chester, St Mary in 1839, would this be too far away from Neston? could there be one nearer?

Thank you for trying to help.
Mary

Hi
There is a marriage in Neston 1833 between Thomas Kent and Jane Evans. It can be found in the http://www.csc.liv.ac.uk/~cprdb/
