Did William have any connection to Maryport?

I agree with the posts that Find My Past being the better of the two as it does have a better search engine.

Thank you for replying Elizabeth. I'll try and get down to Blyth before my great nephew's birthday.

What Pension can't you find ?
Do you mean Dependents Pension Card to his Father ?
That would only exist if he lived at Home at time of Enlistment and contributed to the Household
If he had left Home - then his Father would only be due his Army Pay Arrears (Soldiers Effects) and War Gratuity
It would appear he left Home pre Enlistment- hence no Fold 3 Card

No dependants pension card, as you say, he must have been living out of the family home when he enlisted.

His service record shows that he attested into the Army on 21 August 1916, posted to the RFC on the 15 September 1917 and transferred into the RAF on 1 April 1918 (i.e. the date the RAF came into being)

World War One / Re: Henry Clapton - died 2 Jan 1918 - can't locate pension record

alison300 -- I hope that this image (and link to the web page) will assist you in your quest.

As you can see, he was born at Wapping, his father was Frederick and he enlisted at Stepney. This record also shows that he was previously with the Royal Berkshire Regiment.

As you rightly said, men were moved between regiments to fulfil the Army's needs.

Yesterday, alison300 said He died of wounds on 2.1.1918 and soldiers effects gives his father's name as Frederick.  I cannot seem to find a pension record on Fold3 giving his father's address - is anyone else able to take a look?

I have searched the pension cards on Fold3 / Western Front Association and have to say that there isn't a card for him.
