How would we know whether she was a friend or a relative as we have no knowledge of your FH?

Have you looked for her on Scotlands People to establish her marital status/ maiden name/ parents etc which will help you determine which applies

Sorry, I apologise - I certainly didn't expect you to know whether she was a family member, or a family friend.
I shall try to delete my post

I'm sure I have asked this question before, but even after trawling through all my posts, I cannot find it.
Remembering my childhood, my mother used to take me to visit a lady called Delia Maclennan in Dell Road - it could have been sometime between 1958 and 1966.
Was she a family member, or just a family friend?
Back in those days, as kids we called everyone Aunty or Uncle.
If anyone can help, I shall be very, very grateful.

Wow - I have found several books about this tragedy - in English.
Again, thank you so much for your help.

There‘s a book called the „Gustloff Katastrophe“ written by a survivor called Heinz Schön.
There‘s supppsed to be a incomplete passenger List at the end.

I would definitely need Google Translate to help me read the book, but I guess it would be an amazing read

Europe / MV Wilhelm Gustloff
« on: Sunday 19 May 24 18:35 BST (UK)  »
I have just returned from another visit to Poland to visit my family - the family my father left behind during WW2.
My eldest half-sister, Jadwiga, who now has dementia, remembers events from her childhood (she is now approaching her 92nd birthday) and this time she was telling of how, with her mother and three siblings, they were to be evacuated from Gdynia onboard the MV Wilhelm Gustloff, but as the boat was full, they were left behind.
The ship sank, and many thousands of people drowned.
I have tried unsuccessfully to trace the siblings of my father (he had 9 siblings) and I am now wondering if they were onboard the Gustloff and maybe drowned, or if they were evacuated on another ship and moved abroad somewhere, after the war - and that is why I cannot find any records of them.
Jadwiga also remembers that the family were living in 265 Albert Forstell Strafe, which we think maybe was in Gdynia, Chylonia.
Family research is so fascinating - but so frustrating.

A family member served both in the Royal Navy and the Merchant Service in the 1800s.

The first ship he sailed on was HMS Brazen, from 1826
The second ship was HMS Salamander from 1833
The fourth ship was HMS Revenge from 1840

But I can't make out the name of the third ship he served on from 1834.

Please can someone help.

Ross & Cromarty / Re: Philip Macrae or McRae or McCree

Fascinating to read about Philip being admitted to the Dreadnought Seaman's Hospital, although I might need some help to identify what the illness was.

I think Philip's ailment on record was Periostitis. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Periostitis

Ouch - sounds really painful
