The names of Arthur John PINKNEY born 1945? Great Ayton, North Yorkshire and his wife Margaret Ann PINKNEY nee TRENHOLME appear on a list of unclaimed ashes held by Gateway Funeral Services in Whakatane, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand.  I have been researching these names and have no family connection.
Arthur and Margaret married in 1969 at All Saints, Great Ayton, North Allerton.
Arthur died on 23 November 1996 and Margaret died on 19 December 1996 in Kawerau, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand.
They had two sons born in Cleveland, England in the 1970's.  I have been unable to find them in NZ and wonder if they returned to England after the death of their parents?  The eldest one was an Instrument Technician.
The following is the link to Arthur's Will/Probate Record (Archives NZ - Archway website).  I have been unable to find any of those named in the Will too date.

The Funeral Director is looking for next of kin who could provide instructions as to what is to happen to Arthur and Margaret's ashes.
I realise this forum is to assist with finding deceased family members rather than living family members but have hit a brick wall with my research.
If anyone is able to provide information which may help to locate next-of-kin please send me a PM.

« on: Saturday 03 April 21 04:40 BST (UK)  »
I have been researching Ernest Rawstron and family.  His ashes were unclaimed and held by a Whakatane FD.  They have now been claimed.
I have hit a brick wall with my research - can anyone help me find out what happened to Alfred James Rawstron only?
Ernest's parents were Albert James Rawstron and Liza Thelma Wittison.
Albert was born on 2 March 1881 Bamber Bridge, Lancashire England (source Lancashire OPC birth/baptism record).  His military record states 2 March 1879.
It appears that he served in the South African Highlanders in the Boer War from his NZ Army Record.
He arrived in NZ on the "Athenic", joining the ship in South Africa along with Miss A [Annie] Rawstron.  On board this ship from London was his Mother Hannah Maria Rawstron (her husband Ernest Rawstron, Police Inspector died in 1893 in Burnley) and sister Elsie Rawstron.
In 1909 he married Liza Thlema Wittison in Napier.
Son Enest was born 1910 in Napier and Eric Keith was born 1912 in Napier and dau Kathaline Louisa in 1914 in Tokomaru Bay.
Enlisted in NZ Army for WW1 on 22 July 1916 and DX on 3 Feb 1918 in Wellington to Soldiers Hostel, Boulcott Street, Wellington (struck through) (Source NZ Army Record on Archway)
28 August 1918 Pensions Dept - Medical Record states in past 2 months hawking jewellery.
1919 E R for Palmerston North - living at 274 Main Street
1920 8 Sept and 29 Sept - notices in NZ Police Gazette re failing to maintain 2 children in Wellington Receiving Home.  Occupation given as Carpenter.  Noting "fond of drink"
1923 12 Sept Warrant of Commitment to Wellington Prison for one month in default of paying arrears
1924 Sept 10 - NSW Police Gazette - Warrant issued for arrest of Albert James Rawstron for "disobeying magisterial order for support of his children"

Australia / Searching for Albert James RAWSTRON
« on: Wednesday 31 March 21 03:58 BST (UK)  »
I am searching for any information relating to Albert James RAWSTRON, in Australia.  I am not related to this family but have come to research Albert while researching his son Ernest re unclaimed ashes held by a FD since 1979.  Family have now claimed these.

Albert was born on 2 March 1881, Bamber Bridge, Lancashire to Ernest Rawstron and Hannah Maria Mitchell.
It appears that he came to NZ via Cape Town on the ss "Athenic" arriving in Wellington on 15 October 1903.
On 11 March 1909 he married Liza Thelma WITTISON in Napier.
Three children were born in 1910, 1912 (Napier) and 1914 (Tokomaru Bay).
Albert served in the NZ Army in WW1 22 July 1916 - 3 February 1918.
He appears in the NZ 1919 electoral roll living in Palmerston North
In September 1920 and September 1923 there are entries relating to the failure to maintain his two sons with a Warrant of Commitment to Wellington Prison being issued on 5 September 1923.
On Trove newspapers - NSW Police Gazette of 10 September 1924 it states that a Warrant has been issued by the Children's Court Bench for the arrest of A J Rawstron for disobeying an Order for the support of his children.  He is 35yrs of age 5'10' high, medium build, dark complexion, dark brown hair, blue eyes.  A Carpenter.  Addicted to drink.

I am looking for any information about Albert James Rawstron in Australia?
I have checked the electoral rolls on Ancestry and Sands Directory and the NSW Archive (unless I have missed something) also Trove and found nothing further.  I have also checked the NSW BDM Indexes.
Nothing further is known about him after the above dates including date/place of death.  I am not looking for any information on other family members.
(Note: not to be confused with another Albert James Rawstron who died in Christchurch, NZ in 1944).
Any assistance with information or research advice appreciated.

London and Middlesex / Lookup request 1881 census London Minnie BEALEY
« on: Tuesday 23 March 21 00:15 GMT (UK)  »
Grateful if someone is able to do a lookup of the 1881 census for London for;

"Minnie BEALEY age 21years b 1860"

I found this entry in The Genealogist index, however I don't have a subscription to the site or by using the Free Trial as I have already used this.  I have checked Familysearch, Findmypast, FreeUK 1881 census and Ancestry but have been unable to locate her.

I also found in the Free UKBMD a marriage entry in the December 1882 quarter for;
Minnie Hester F Bealey - Harry ATKINSON, Warrington, [Lancashire] Vol 8C, Page 275

Are they the same person?

Any assistance appreciated.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Elizabeth MANN buried St Thomas's Churchyard Halifax 1911
« on: Saturday 13 February 21 08:34 GMT (UK)  »
There is an Elizabeth MANN of Heworth Green, York buried in the St Thomas's Churchyard, Halifax on 22 March 1911.  She was 89 years of age and born c 1822. (Source Genuki)
Other MANN's also buried in the churchyard are John Mann, his wife Mary Mann and son Robert Parker Mann.

In immigration to Canterbury, New Zealand on the ship "Lady Jocelyn" which departed London on 3 November 1874, arriving Lyttelton, New Zealand on 21 January 1875 - Colonial Nominated Immigrants by Anthony Mann, Waimate, NZ are the following:

Elizabeth Mann 46yrs Cook, Yorks
Emily Mann 17yrs Svt, Yorks
Elizabeth Mann 15yrs Svt, Yorks
Robert [Parker] Mann 7yrs, Yorks

I have yet to located the migration record for Anthony, but do know he was in Waimate, NZ in Nov 1873 (Source: Paperspast NZ Press newspaper 11 Nov 1873, Pg 2)

I would be interested to know if the Elizabeth Mann buried in the St Thomas's churchyard, Halifax is the same person at the Elizabeth Mann who came out to NZ in 1874/75?

Could she be a sister of John Mann, and aunt to Elizabeth, Emily and Robert?

Robert Parker Mann returned to England (details unknown) and I wonder if Elizabeth Mann returned with him?  Robert Parker Mann died in 1881.

Any assistance appreciated.

I will attach as a separate posting research on the NZ Board, on Elizabeth Mann age 15yrs who arrived in NZ in 1875 to avoid duplication of research.

New Zealand Completed Requests / Elizabeth Bottomley MANN arrival in NZ?
« on: Tuesday 09 February 21 02:13 GMT (UK)  »
I am researching and writing a short bio for the NZ 1893 Women's Suffrage Petition database and am seeking assistance with the arrival details in NZ only.  I have no family connection.

Name: Elizabeth Bottomley MANN born 1857 Halifax, Yorkshire (West Riding), England to John Mann and Mary Bottomley.

She married William Blake on 22 April 1878 in Waimate, South Canterbury.  They had 11 children born between 1879 and 1899 - all born in Waimate.

Around 1900 the family moved to Wellington.

William died on 21 July 1932 age 83 yrs and Elizabeth died on 9 November 1941 in Lyall Bay, Wellington age 84 yrs (death notice in Evening Post 10 Nov 1941).  Both are buried in Karori cemetery.

I have contacted the Waimate Archives, however they are currently closed for refurbishment until next month.  I have also looked on FamilySearch but not been able to find anything definite as there are a number of Elizabeth Mann's.  There are a number of family trees on Ancestry.  Most of the owners have not accessed their account for some time.  I have contacted one owner but so far have received no response.

Any assistance with arrival details in NZ would be very much appreciated.

Essex / Gladys Louise FITZJOHN
« on: Sunday 01 November 20 04:40 GMT (UK)  »
I am seeking assistance to identify family members of Gladys Louise FITZJOHN nee Faver.
She died in New Zealand on 12 April 1995 and her ashes remain with a Funeral Director unclaimed.

Gladys was born on 17 March 1904 in Essex, England.  Her parents were Robert Ernest Faver (1874-1954) and Catharine Matilda Britain (1879-1936) - details from Ancestry Public Family Trees.
In September 1925 she married Ernest James Fitzjohn in Romford, Essex, England.
Ernest Fitzjohn died in 1962 in Hampstead, London, England.
I next found Gladys and Andre Robert Fitzjohn (son?) in the 1969 electoral roll in Nelson, New Zealand.  I have not been able to find a passenger arrival for them in NZ on Familysearch.
Andre Robert Fitzjohn was born c 1943.  I have not been able to find his birth.  He died in Nelson, NZ on 16 April 1988 age 45 years.  He was married twice.  He was divorced from his first wife
c 1977.  His second wife, Elizabeth Dawn Fitzjohn died in 2015.
Andre's Probated Will mentions his wife Elizabeth Dawn Fitzjohn and refers to children, but not named.  Andre was a Gardener.  I am still trying to identify any children in NZ.
Question:
Did Ernest and Gladys have any other children who remained in England?
If so, and they are likely to still be alive, please PM me with details.
Any assistance gratefully appreciated.
