Technical Help / Help PSP -> PL/SQL !!
« on: Saturday 15 January 22 18:44 GMT (UK)  »
Back  in 2005  I acquired some photos from my mother in law. I scanned and restored them. In fact I put one or two up on the photo board for help with them.

For some reason I used Corel PSP. Most of them were then saved in that format ,  and saved both to computer in an 'In law' folder and also saved to external drive and usb stick. Over the years, I have had a few computers and have used Photoshop since then as I  preferred it.

Last week I decided to look through them again. There they were on numerous backups. Clicked on one (PS can open PSP files)  but found it wouldn't open. When I investigated further, I found that they weren't in the usual PSP image format* but are all PL/SQL !!

I'm not sure how this happened. I managed to open one and it is definitely a SQL type file.

I don't have much hope but is there anyway I can get back to the correct file format ?

Grateful for any ideas  - even to confirm that they're useless!

Technical Help / You PC ran into a problem and needs to restart
« on: Sunday 09 January 22 10:46 GMT (UK)  »
Twice yesterday my laptop showed the following message - once while I was in the middle of repairing a photo and once when i was looking at a set of photos in an online article

You PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error information and we'll restart for you.

It successfully restarted.  I wasn't able to record the error code as it was too fast

Would anyone know what was the likely problem? Could it be a problem with a graphics card or  :-\

The laptop is abut 2 1/2 years old running Win10.

It seems OK today, although I did some work in PS to see if I could recreate the problem.

Technical Help / COMPLETED - Wireless Mouse - no receiver
« on: Thursday 30 December 21 14:21 GMT (UK)  »
I have a spare mouse that I must have had for a while and bought from Amazon ages ago.  When opened the pack only had the mouse and no receiver.

Is there any way of using it with a receiver from another set?

Thanks

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Ancestry DNA page funny!
« on: Thursday 11 November 21 10:23 GMT (UK)  »
I have access to a number of DNA tests  and normally just click on the 'View another test'  to look at them.

Today, I went in to check on someone else's test results and, instead of the drop down listing, this came up.

I've tried on various browsers and get the same.

Does anyone else have this problem?

South Africa / Colin Rea Campbell. Death information, please.
« on: Saturday 04 September 21 15:21 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to find the death of a half 1st cousin once removed .

Colin Rea Campbell b. 3 April 1902 Maraisburg to Charles W R Campbell and Ediith Louise nee Richards. I have full information for the family.
Colin served an apprenticeship as an engineer in England crca 1921-26.
Married Muriel Neal, Chelsea, 1926. A daughter (C. R.)   b. 26 June 1928,Lincolnshire
The family returned to SA in 1929-30.
Muriel dies 5 May 1941, Germiston.
Married Una Kathleen Brereton (nee Corder) 31 July 1943 in Johannesburg.
Una dies 6 October 1960, Pietermaritzburg. The death entry records her as married not widowed or divorced.

I've not found Colin after this. There was a possible for his death in Australia but it wasn't him.

I would also be interesting in finding anything about his daughter but, as she might be still alive (b. 1928), I'm reluctant to name her.

I would be grateful for any information about his death and about his daughter after 1941.

Many thanks

I can't decipher the  first name of the son who was the informant on a Scottish death cert. Other information is in the hand of the Registrar, which is quite different.

Alexander Coutts had four sons that I have records for - James, Alexander, Robert and Samuel. Samuel would have been eight at the time so it's not him but I don't see it looking like any of the others either!

Any ideas, please.
