Carmarthenshire Completed Requests / Benjamin Williams Llwynglas *COMPLETE*
« on: Tuesday 03 August 10 02:53 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I'm trying to find Benjamin Williams born ca 1849, in 1881 and earlier:

In 1891 to 1911 Benjamin was at Llwynglas, Pontantwn, Llangendeirne, Carmarthen with his wife Jane and various children (but a John Charles and family were at Llwynglas in 1881).

Llwynglas 1891 children: Mary, John, David, William

Llwynglas 1901 children: Benjamin, Elizabeth
RG13 Piece: 5110 Folio: 53 Page:  7

In 1911 Benjamin and Jane were said to be married 25 years, so probably about 1885/6. Children with them at Llwynglas in 1911: David and Elizabeth

From the children's ages in 1891, e.g. Mary b1880 and John b1883, I suspect that Benjamin may have married twice.

Benjamin died in 1919 age 70 and is buried at Meinciau near Kidwelly, with his son Benjamin who died 1913 age 20, and daughter Elizabeth Bowen who died 1921 age 24. Can't tell if Jane is there too due to condition of the stone. Daughter Mary is buried at Croesyceiliog although I haven't found the grave.

I'm wondering whether this could be Benjamin in 1881 with first wife Margaret at Cloigin Fach, Llangendeirne in 1881. This place is very close to Llwynglas.
Children Thomas, Anne, and Hannah.

The family know that Benjamin had a son Thomas, as well as John, Benjamin, Mary, David, and Elizabeth. Although Benjamin was a coal miner 1891 onwards, he could have had a different occupation prior to that. His birthplace and age also change between census records, but I think he was born around 1849 based on his gravestone.

It's difficult because they have different children with them at each census. With the surname Williams this is not going to be an easy one to crack, but I know that it's not impossible. :D

Many thanks

Denbighshire Lookup Requests / Eli Pugh - Ruabon Parish 1853-64
« on: Sunday 25 July 10 00:08 BST (UK)  »
Hello

Freebmd and northwalesbmd have a different year for this boy's death, if it is the same person. One is 1864 (Dec Q) and one is 1865 (Mar Q). He was born 1853 and was the adopted son of Thomas and Mary Pugh formerly of Erbistock. He died at the age of 11 and is buried at Rhosymedre. Please can anyone provide any information about Eli and the family?

Many thanks

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Forsyth b1840 Birmingham
« on: Monday 19 July 10 04:28 BST (UK)  »
Hello

Please can someone help me to trace the ancestry of John Forsyth born 1840/1 in Birmingham, England. He moved a few times so I'm not sure where to post. :)

In 1871, John and Charlotte Forsyth were living in Walsall district, Staffordshire, with their 2 children Thomas and MaryAnn.

By 1881 they were at Railway Terrace, Gresford, Denbighshire, and John was a tilemaker.

I found a possible John Forsyth christening record in LDS site:
John Forsyth
born 12 OCT 1840
christened 22 OCT 1840 at Saint Phillips, Birmingham, Warwick, England
parents John and Ann Forsyth

but can't find him in 1841 or 1851 Census at Birmingham with his parents, and I haven't found him in 1861 either.

I feel there will be a Scotland connection somewhere in John's ancestry so would appreciate any help to trace his parents and Grandparents, etc from Birmingham back to his Scottish roots  :D

Many thanks

Just read that 2011 Census may be the last in its current format  :o
they say it's too expensive and out-dated before it's published

Australia Lookups completed / LEWIS transported from Carmarthenshire *COMPLETE*
« on: Sunday 27 June 10 02:26 BST (UK)  »
Hello

this is a long shot but family folklore says a member of the Carmarthenshire Lewis family was transported to Australia for his involvement in the Rebecca Riots in Wales (1839-43). Don't know his first name but could have been Richard or David Lewis.

When the story was told to me it sounded like he was sent far away for cross-dressing but of course the Rebecca Rioters dressed in female clothing to act as Rebecca and her daughters attacking the tollgates. ;)

Has anyone heard this story in relation to a convict named ? Lewis
He would probably have been convicted at Carmarthen.
thank you for any information

Essex Completed Lookup Requests / Walton on Naze *COMPLETE*
« on: Saturday 12 June 10 03:12 BST (UK)  »
Hello

Please can you tell me which district Walton on Naze would be for BMD registration and for Census?

In 1901 Mary Ann Evans (don't know her maiden name yet) was living in Cefn Mawr Denbighshire with her husband Joseph, his brother Thomas, and children John, Sarah, Mary Ann, Thomas, William, and Joseph.

Mary Ann's birthplace was given as Walton on Naze around 1857 but of course she may not appear in any census records if her parents were there on holiday for example.

It's difficult to find her birth record as I haven't found the marriage to Joseph Evans yet, so I just want to know more about Walton-on-Naze. They seem to have lived in various places around Lancashire and Denbighshire between 1887 and 1901

thank you for any info
