Aberdeenshire / George Marnoch Scott/Shand
« on: Tuesday 20 September 05 16:33 BST (UK)  »
My nana had a 1/2 brother that I'd like to find out more about.

He was born as George Marnoch Scott to Mary Scott (domestic servant) on 24th May 1904 at Gourdas, Fyvie - no fathers name on certificate.

Now Mary married John Jaffray Shand in 1905 and he adopted George so he became George Shand.  Is there anywhere I could find an adoption certificate or any details of this name change?

My mum remembers bits about her 1/2 uncle.... he had 2 sons (she doesn't remember their names) and a daughter she thinks was called Mary (thinks Mary was disabled).  They farmed at Potarch (Kincardine O'Neill) then sold the farm and lived in Kincardine O'Neill.

Any help much appreciated.
Cheers  :)

Aberdeenshire / Robert Davidson - Peterhead
« on: Tuesday 06 September 05 10:40 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for Robert Davidson who was born 22nd March 1823 in Peterhead.  I got this information from Scotlandspeople but it does not have a copy of his birth certificate online.  According to Roberts death cert (in Aberdeen in 1873) his parents were Robert Davidson and Margaret Milne.

I have found him in the 1871 census but would really like to know more about him before then - can anyone help?

Many thanks
Lindsay

Aberdeenshire / Skene/Murray - Aberdeen 1901
« on: Wednesday 06 July 05 16:55 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for John Skene and his wife Mary (nee Murray).  They married in Dundee in 1894 and moved to Aberdeen sometime.  They had a daughter called Madge Davidson Skene b. 1899 at 220 Gallowgate Aberdeen.  Poor Madge died aged just 4 months so I know that the family were still at 220 Gallowgate in Feb 1900.  Is anyone able to tell me if they are still at Gallowgate in the 1901 census?  I can't seem to find them anywhere.  John would have been aged 34 and Mary would have been 21.

Many thanks,
Lindsay

Donegal / Gallagher/Maloney/Sweeney/Heena - Ardara
« on: Friday 17 June 05 14:41 BST (UK)  »
 :) hello,

I have done lots of work on my own family tree and have decided to tackle my husbands tree which is not proving so easy!  Can anyone suggest how I go about starting?

Here's what I know so far:

Noel Gallagher b. 1951, Ballhill Youth Hostel, Donegal (his parents were running the hostel).  Brothers Ray and Nick Gallagher.  Their parents were:

Patrick Gallagher b. 1911 Donegal and Mary Christina Maloney b. 1917 Donegal.  They both died in Birmingham, England.

The parents of Patrick Gallagher (b. 1911) were Patrick Gallagher and Anne Henne.  They both died in Ardara.  Patrick had 4 brothers (Danny, Eddie, Joseph, Dennis) and 2 sisters (Kathleen & Bridget)

I don't know the names of Mary Maloney's parents except surnames were Maloney and Sweeney.  Mary had a sister called Ethna who married John McCabe (Ardara)

The Heena name seemingly does not originate from Ireland and was taken to Ireland when a ship wrecked off Donegal and the 2 brothers who survived were named Henne.  I can't find anything of great significance in my search for the Henne name either.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Lindsay

Aberdeenshire / Ledingham Photographer
« on: Thursday 09 June 05 14:47 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help?

My grandparents had their wedding photograph taken by Ledinghams of Aberdeen in 1937.  We would like to obtain a copy of the photograph but Ledinghams don't exist anymore - any clues as to where we could get this photo?

Thanks,
Lindsay

Angus (Forfarshire) / Bastardy files for Angus?
« on: Wednesday 01 June 05 10:11 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have link or access to Bastardy files for Angus?

I have the birth cert for my great grandfather - William Stark Clark b. Oct 1887, 93 Hemming Street, Dunnichen, Angus.  Mother is Ann Robertson Clark b. 1865, Dunnichen and he is listed as illegitemate.

Perhaps the middle name Stark is a clue as I haven't found it anywhere else in the family....

Any help would be much appreciated.  :)
Thanks
Lindsay

Aberdeenshire / Cadenhead from Aberdeen
« on: Monday 16 May 05 13:32 BST (UK)  »
My g/g/g grandmother was Janet (Jessie) Cadenhead.  She married Alexander Smith in Sept 1824.  Her parents were Alexander Cadenhead and Jessie Nicol.  Their marriage cert is not available on scotlandspeople so would love to hear from anyone else researching this line so I can get further back with Alexander Smith (are there any other ways I could find his parents?)

Janet & Alexander had 4 children (that I know):-

Thomas b. 1841
Alexander b. 1827
John b. 1829
James b. 1831
