Scotland / Anyone looking for a will 1900-1936 or 1948-1959?
« on: Thursday 28 April 11 21:21 BST (UK)  »
On Saturday I am going to check the Register of Confirmations for a fellow Rootschatter. This tells you if someone died testate, where any will is to be found, who the executors were, the value of the estate left and sometimes other odds and ends.

If anyone wants me to check an entry, let me know and I'll try to do it. You will have to give me the name and date of death. Another detail, such as place of death or spouse's name would be useful too.

West Lothian (Linlithgowshire) / Linlithgow 1673

I have come across a manuscript account for work done on church pews in Linlithgow in July and August 1673. These are the men paid for the job, just in case anyone spots an ancestor.

Armed Forces / Kinloch Bequest
« on: Sunday 13 March 11 13:09 GMT (UK)  »
My great great great great grandfather, Thomas Urquhart, from Turriff, Aberdeenshire, was a private in the 10th Regiment of Foot, probably the second battalion. He was in Sicily in 1808. He returned to Aberdeenshire and was in receipt of a pension from the Kinloch Bequest (for wounded Scottish soldiers). I would be interested to hear from anyone who has done any research into records of the Kinloch Bequest.

Thanks,

Graham.

United States of America / William Taylor d. 1937 Darby, Pennsylvania
« on: Sunday 13 March 11 12:59 GMT (UK)  »
My great uncle, William Taylor, was born at Walkerhill, New Byth, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, on 14th July 1877. He was a stone mason and married Mary Ann Wilson at Aberdeen on 27th January 1906. He emigrated soon after, probably going first to Canada. I have a newspaper cutting from a Scottish paper which says he died at 201A North 2nd Street, Darby, Pennsylvania, on 8th February 1937, as the result of an accident. He is described as a foreman bricklayer.

Can anyone help shed more light on William and his family in the U.S.?

Thanks,

Graham.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone with a connection with Submarine C23 in or after 1914.
