Cheshire / Little Budworth - 1961 - COMPLETED WITH VERY MANY THANKS
« on: Monday 05 June 23 16:05 BST (UK)  »
A horrible admission I have to make  :'(

My grandmother, Maria (Milner) Appleyard, born in Halifax and died 8 February 1961 at The Post Office, Little Budworth.  BUT I don't know what happened to her body.

I am almost 100% sure that she wasn't buried at St Peter in the village.  There is certainly no headstone etc. as there was for my other grandparents, Walter Stanley and Annie Kendall.

I have it in the back of my mind that she was cremated - but where?  My gut instinct is Northwich.  My parents were cremated in Crewe in 1970 and 1994.

Any thoughts or ideas of where I might look?

The Common Room / Excommunication - 1782
« on: Monday 01 May 23 17:43 BST (UK)  »
Inside the cover of Tadcaster parish records in 1782 is a notice which says that three ladies have been excommunicated - Catherine Archbell, Jane Wise and Elenor Willins.  My interest is Catherine.

My query is why were they excommunicated?  I do know that Catherine had two illegitimate children following the death of her husband, Thomas - George in 1776 and Sarah in 1780.  Thomas married Catherine on 8 June 1767 (as his third wife) and he died 20 April 1774.  He left a will which appears to say that Catherine will lose everything if she re-marries.  I also know that Catherine was buried at St Mary, Tadcaster on 23 August 1801.

Any thoughts on the excommunication, please?

Cheshire / Wiki-Wirral

Has anyone had any dealings with this website.  I attempted to register on Thursday, and am still awaiting approval?

I am attempting to find a photograph of a house in Hoole Road, Hoole (now demolished I believe) where I was born in 1942 - The Shrublands.

Any thoughts anyone, pretty please?

The Common Room / GRO anomaly!
« on: Thursday 10 November 22 16:36 GMT (UK)  »
I've been transcribing for FreeBMD for a number of years, but in my current assignment - Deaths - December quarter 1869 - I have noticed something strange!

Usually forenames under any surname are in strict alphabetical order.

There are, however, a fair number of deaths for "un-named" babies with a birth age of 0. In these instances they are designated as "Male" or "Female".

What struck me, in these instances, is that "Male" entries are listed before "Female" - I always thought that "F" preceded "M" in the alphabet.  :-\ :-\ :-\

OOPS!  Should have checked other years - certainly the same in 1879/1880  :-[ :-[

Does anyone have any knowledge of a discount for FindMyPast?  My subscription is due for renewal at the beginning of September.  As far as I can see I can get a 15% discount for automatic renewal.  Anyone have any other ideas, please?

The Common Room / How very sad!
« on: Friday 29 July 22 07:40 BST (UK)  »
My current assignment for FreeBMD transcriptions is Deaths in December quarter 1869.  I couldn't help but notice the number of deaths recorded for children under 1 year old - 96 on page 1, out of about 360 names.  :'( :'(
