World War One / A.McKay WW1 from Indigo Valley, Victoria Australia
« on: Monday 13 April 15 00:50 BST (UK)  »
A local lady is doing a presentation for ANZAC day on WW1 soldiers from Barnawartha & Middle Indigo. North East Victoria Australia.
One soldier she cannot find anything on is A.McKAY
That is it.

from the Federal Standard paper Friday 2nd March 1917 pg 2
   Soldiering

" The honor roll at the Middle Indigo State School contains the names of the following old scholars who are now on active service.:-
J Christie, D. Mathieson, T. Mathieson, J. Devitt, P. Devitt, J. Rohde, E Goodger, J McGrath and A.McKay "

His name appears in many issues of the paper. She has not been able to find records for him.
The Honor Board is also missing from the school.
I was hoping a RC might be able to help.

I am trying to find the emigration record for my husbands maternal 2nd Gt Grand Parents
Louis LESEBERG b 1826 at Salzgitter Germany Parents August LESEBERG and Sophia MARHEINE.
Married Caroline BRUNKE 1851 Salzgitter Germany. Parents Christopher BRUNKE & Magdaline FROST.
They had 3 children in Germany
Elizabeth 1851/52
Frederick 1853
Louis  1855  then there were 5 more children born in Australia.
sadly Frederick & Louis drowned in The Indigo Creek Victoria in 1867'

They would have emigrated  between 1855 - 1858 as forth child August was born in Australia 1858.
I have found a Caroline LESEBERG arriving in Melbourne July 1857 on the Eagle Speed departing from Liverpool. HOWEVER the microfiche says she was 29 and a Spinster.

On Far North QLD pioneer & settlers reg there are other BRUNKE'S
BRUNKE Augusta b c1835 Salzgitter  parents Carle & Magdalena FROST.
She came to Melbourne age 20 1855 on the Iserbrook
I think she might be Caroline's sister/ relation

Midlothian / convict sent to Australia
« on: Thursday 02 February 12 00:48 GMT (UK)  »
My convict ancestor's name was Mary Burrows
Her convict record description said she had the following letters on her rt arm

A M C M B  Could these have been used for identification by the authorities.
She travelled from Scotland on a small sloop to Woolwich

The last 2 letters M B could be for Mary Burrows. What would the 3 other letters stand for.
Does anyone know?

Midlothian / Mary Burrows abt 1807
« on: Monday 02 January 12 05:46 GMT (UK)  »
Mary is my 2nd great grandmother. She was born about 1807, was convicted in Edinburgh Midlothian  Scotland 21 July 1834.
Voyage date 11 June 1835 sailed on the vessel Hector to Van Dieman's Land (Tasmania) Australia.
She was convicted for 7 years. Mary married Thomas Vinen 3rd October 1836 in New Norfolk Tasmania.
I believe she was a widow when she was convicted. I would like to find out what I can about her prior to her conviction and transportation.
