Hi all,
Am looking for a little help on a Naval Reserve Record.

The three areas are highlighted ....

both the red and green boxes show the abbreviated names of ports - can anyone please help?

The yellow box clearly shows B Aires but is the word underneath Buenos Aires - disaster or deserted??

Finally while i know what an RV2 is - can anyone put me right on what an RV6 was???

Thanks

World War One / Help with Naval Service Record
« on: Saturday 06 April 24 10:28 BST (UK)  »
Apologies in advance but am seeking help on 'Sydney' on the attached record....was it a ship or a depot or what??

Does the 'red' highlight say 'Inverness-shire' as I know the US had a mone-laying base there?

Any  ideas on the significance of the 'yellow' highlights would be great.

Any explanation would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all,
Am seeking help with reading the Naval Service record of my great-uncle....particularly the first three or four lines.

Armed Forces / Royal Navy Reserve 1900 - 2 Quick Questions re conditions
« on: Monday 04 March 24 09:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

Much to my surprise have discovered my g.grandfather signed up to the RNR in 1899....we assume this was a way of supplementing his meagre wages as a foundry labourer.

What were the rates of pay for members of RNR at this time?

How many days each year would he have spent training with RNR?

Thanks.

World War One / Help with Record of Service please
« on: Tuesday 06 February 24 13:19 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,
While researching a Records of Service I came across the following...which has me baffled and all and any held will be appreciated.
Under the Examinations column
it lists 'If Passed ....School of Instruction' and then 'Cavalry Pioneer Class' and opposite this
Yes   09  Canterbury & Christchurch are handwritten.

What exactly was a Cavlary Pioneer Class and did this mean he travelled to New Zealand for this course??

The Common Room / Colour Sergeant and his ever expanding family query
« on: Tuesday 09 January 24 21:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all.....am researching a Colour Sergeant in 2nd Worcester Regiment. Have traced that the first four of his children were all born and lived at various barracks where he was based. When nos 5 & 6 were born the family were living in a house near the Barracks. Haven't manged to find out where they were lving when 7, 8 and 9 were born!!! Would move from Barracks have been due to 1) modest pay increase following promotion to Colour Sergeant 2) barracks simply not big enough for such a family or a combination of the two?
All suggestions and advice welcome.

Occupation Interests / Motor Engineer
« on: Thursday 04 January 24 13:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all....I am looking for a little bit of clarity on a 1911 Census Return for Ireland (Wexford town). The occupation for the gentleman in question is 'Motor Enginer' (sic).
I am pretty certain that this is not the same as a 'car mechanic' but given the fact Wexford had numerous foundries at that time, could this job be connected to this type of industry?
All advice welcome.

Armed Forces / Query re RNR Chevrons
« on: Thursday 14 December 23 13:05 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
Am looking at Service Record for a Wexford town native who served in the Royal Navy Reserve during WW1. It states he was awarded chevrons for 1914, 15, 16, 17 & 18. Would the chevrons awarded be similar to the picture attached? The article where I found this picture concerned an Officer in the RNR.....would an ordinary sailor's chevrons have been the same or were they a different colour???
TIA
