Hi Mike

Oh dear! I must be having more Senior Moments :-[

I've got a bit confuddled with some of ladydot's research and thought we had only asked about the baptisms of some of Robert & Alice NEWEY and their marriage.
I shall do a file of events we have confirmed and we won't be asking duplicates again.

Thanks Mike.
Regards,
Shirley

Leicestershire / Robert & Alice NEWEY burials at Ashby de la Zouch

Hi.
I would be truly grateful if some kind soul could look up the the details of the following burials at Ashby de la Zouch, St Helen.

Robert NEWEY  2 June 1836

Alice NEWEY  21 April 1837

I found these burials on the NBI v3 but the entry is marked as "Unchecked" so if anyone has access to the microfilm/fiche of the original burial register and can verify it for me, it would be fantastic.
The Robert NEWEY (sometimes found as NEWLY etc) was an Excise Officer so if that was mentioned in the register entry, I will know I have the correct burials.

Thanks in advanced.
Regards, Shirley

Hi Jim.

Thank you very much for your reply. I shall pass it on to my friend (ladydot) as they are her direct ancestors. I am helping her with her research as she isn't very confident on computers.

I noticed on your message you are researching family in Melksham - so am I.
I am looking mainly for the BURBIDGEs and STEVENS families. I haven't found any WOODMANs in my tree yet, but you never know.......

Regards,
Shirley

I would be very grateful if anyone who is going to Ashby de la Zouch Parish Churchyard could keep a look out for the burials of Robert NEWEY & Alice NEWEY.
They were buried in the 1830s (according to the NBI-3)and I need to link the two people together as I am hoping they are a married couple and the gravestone may show this.
Any other info from the gravestone would be very useful indeed.
Thank you in advance.
Kind regards,
Shirley

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Re: Dixon NEWEY bapt Appleby Magna 1805

Hi Mike.

Once again, thank you very much for your help - you really a star.
I've sent an email to the Vicar and asked him to pass it on to someone who may be kind enough to look for the headstone. I hope he replies (I know they don't always), so I shall wait and see.

Familysearch give Robert & Alice's surname as NEWEY and their son Dixon & their daughter Mary Dixon both married as NEWEY, but variations did occur, didn't they?

Kind regards,
Shirley

Hi Mike & ladydot

Thanks for looking, Mike.
I've just checked my National Burial Index3, and I think I may have found Robert & Alice's burials!

At Ashby de la Zouch, (St Helen's church) an Alice NEWEY was buried 21 April 1837, aged 74 years.
Also a Robert NEWEY was buried in the same churchyard 2 June 1836, aged 72 years.
The Data Provider was Leicestershire & Rutland Family History Society (Record Status: unchecked.

ladydot, we may need to ask if there is a kind soul on here who lives in Ashby de la Zouch or who is due to visit the churchyard, who would keep a look-out for the gravestone to see if it gives further details (if indeed they are in the same grave).

Regards,

Hi Mike.

You are a STAR!!!
A million thanks for taking the time & trouble to look these up.
It does appear Lucy was a sibling & perhaps a twin of Dixon.

I shall have to see if I can find Alice & Robert's baptisms and their burials, & as Mary & Dixon married in London, I may have a long job.

Do you happen to know if there are Monumental Inscriptions for Appleby Magna or Syston? They may be the best places to start.

Once again, thank you very much for your kindness.
Regards,
ladydot
