Thanks, BumbleB. Yes, I would have expected his baptism to have been either Tamworth or Drayton Bassett if he was a local man. It’s a shame that he died before the 1841 census because it might have indicated if he was born outside the county or not.

Staffordshire / Finding William's parents

I was hoping someone could tell me where families living in Drayton Bassett would have baptised their children? William Hewitt (born c.1756) married Elizabeth Dunton 16 July 1781 at Tamworth. The banns and the marriage entry say that William was of Drayton parish. William died in 1840 so missed out on the 1841 census unfortunately. William baptised his own children at Hints and Tamworth but I'm struggling to find a baptism for William.

Dodderhill, St Augustine
6 August 1780
Elizabeth Robin d. of Matthew and Elizabeth Robin, of In Liberties

Thanks, jimnix, this is the only plausible baptism I found for the little girl, Elizabeth, mentioned in the removal order. Where is "In Liberties"?  ???

I received a copy of the 1784 removal order today and it's thrown a spanner in the works  ::)

The removal order gives the ages of Matthew and Sarah's 6 children who are named as Sarah, aged 14, Thomas, aged 12, William, aged 7, Ann, aged 6, Elizabeth, aged 3, and Lydia, aged 9 months.

There is no mention of John (born 1768) so I'm assuming he died or moved away as he would have been about 16 at this time. This is the first time I have heard of Matthew and Sarah having a daughter named Elizabeth!
The only baptism I can find for Elizabeth is the one that took place at Dodderhill on 6 August 1780, only she was the daughter of Matthew and Elizabeth, not Matthew and Sarah. At first, I thought it may have been a clerical error but there was also a Hannah, baptised at Claines on 25 February 1759, daughter of Matthew and Elizabeth!

Am I looking at two Matthew Robbins' here? Or could it be possible that Matthew Robbins was married to Elizabeth but also having children with Sarah Wallinger at the same time? Which perhaps explains why Matthew and Sarah didn't marry until 1783.

Many thanks for everyone’s ideas and input. I think the best thing for me to next is try and view the register if that’s possible. Does anyone know if the images for the Droitwich PRs have been put online?

Yes, the Pedmore marriage was found on FS and the Droitwich marriage was found in the transcriptions of Droitwich parish registers which I purchased a few years ago. I agree that there was possibly some confusion between the two St Peters. The Droitwich transcription also includes the witnesses so the marriage must have taken place there.

Thanks for both of your thoughts. I've had problems with Worcestershire parish registers before as not many seem to have been scanned, they're mostly all transcripts unfortunately! The bride had been baptised at Droitwich, St Peter which makes more sense for the marriage to have taken place there. After their marriage, John and Ann went to Worcester and obviously John was said to have been of Chaddesley Corbett. As far as I knew, neither of them had links to Pedmore which is what is confusing me  ;D

I have the transcription for the marriage of John Collins, a bachelor of Chaddlesley Corbett, and Ann Robbins, a spinster of Droitwich, which took place on 6 October 1800 at Droitwich, St Peter. However,
I have just come across a transcribed record for a marriage between John Collins and a Miss Robbins (first name of bride is blank) on 6 October 1800 at Pedmore. Were John and Ann married twice on the same day?  ???
