Just my wishful thinking that I may have found a brother for William.

Apologies for the delay in replying.....no  power for 20 hrs.

Wow....amazed at all the info, especially the tidbit re William preaching at the mission stations....gives me some idea of his life.

Have sent emails to both the Wexford Echo and W People newspapers, will also try Baillieborough newspapers. Did not have any luck accessing the NLI Newspaper Index, but will keep trying.

Will apply for a death cert. It may not enhance anymore info than you both have given me, but will confirm I have the right William, and of course you never know what else.

From the Slater's Directory 1881 info, would this be the new minister? Interesting to note that I have a James down as a possible brother...time will tell.

It is greatly appreciated all the research you both have done.

Cheers

Just remember that Irish death certificates contain very little detail- name, date and place of death, age in years, cause of death, sex, marital status, occupation, name of informant. Birthdate and place, prents, spouse and place of burial not listed.

Will have to reconsider obtaining certificate at this stage, as I was hoping to confirm his parents were Huston Burns and Elizabeth Liscoe, his birthplace, and any other siblings other than Jane. The info that I have has come from Jane's death certificate here in Australia.

Shane is there a possibility for a death look-up for Huston and Elizabeth??

Shane, was thinking the same thing, that he could have died in Wexford.

My est birthdate for William was between 1826-28. Parents married c1825 and my gggrandmother Jane born 1829. It appears that you may have the correct record. Think it is definately worth ordering a death cert.

Wexford / Rev William BURNS - Wexford 1853
« on: Saturday 26 December 09 11:37 GMT (UK)  »
Have confirmed that the Rev William Burns was located somewhere in Wexford 1853, through a marriage newspaper article (1853) of his sister Jane to Richard Morgan in Bailieborough County Cavan.

I do not know what denomination he belonged to, possibly Presbyterian or Church of Ireland.

Would appreciate any information in locating where he was in Wexford.

Australia Lookups completed / Re: TAS Marriage look-up please - DOBSON

Hi Jenn

Am trying to confirm James's (1842) parentage. All I have is a John & Elizabeth, as you have confirmed, so was trying to find the right John Dobson.

The online name indexes have James under John Wright Dobson, and according to the convicts "permission to marry" he married an Elizabeth Stokes, but as stated previously the children do not compute.

Hi Jenn

Many thanks for the look-up.

Looked at the name indexes for Haukes but nothing there, and then looked up Hawkes. Only one Elizabeth Hawkes b1807 - think that this could be a bit early, was looking at the 1820's.

John Wright D's children are listed as George b1840 Clarence, James as you notated bSep 1842, Sarah bOct 1842 - (James & Sarah not siblings) Hobart, Gilbert John b1844 Hobart and Catharine b1846 Hobart.

Confusing to say the least.

Jenn, there were no other Dobson's around that time listed on the Pioneer Index????

Cheers
