Ah found the reason for the incorrect surname for Lily in the obit - her mother re-married to a man named Wickenden when she was just 5.

Thanks for the link to the fultonhistory.com obit for George Shellyesq - it's certainly his obit!  It's strange that they've got the wrong name for his wife but everything else matches exactly.

Thanks also for the links pertaining to George C his grandson; I had found his ssdi entry and Yorba Linda listing but not the obit.  Very helpful!  :)

Thanks RJ137 - I tried FamilySearch but didn't find that!

So the tree was accurate; right date just wrong place.

I'm now trying to work out if a George Henry Cullen who died 9 Jul 1990 in Volusia, Florida is George's son.  I've found this little obit:

http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/keyword/yorba-linda/featured/4

It says he was born in Yonkers when he was really born in England but they emigrated when he was just 1 year old so I can see how that error could be made.  Still I can't be 100% sure without further proof.

Thanks again.

US Completed Requests / George Craig Cullen Death (1958?)

I'm trying to track down the death of George Craig Cullen - he was born 9th Jun 1884 in Glasgow, Scotland.  He married Lily Selina Russell in Glasgow in 1908.  I've only found one child for them; George Henry Cullen born in England in 1909.  The family emigrated to the USA; I haven't found George going out yet but it must've been in 1909/early 1910 as Lily and George travelled to join him in Yonkers, New York arriving on 21st Aug 1910.

I've found them on the 1920 and 1930 census and George on his own as a lodger in 1940. I have a possibility for son George still in Yonkers too.  I haven't been able to find Lily in 1940 though.  George and Lily got divorced in Dade county, Florida in 1941 and Lily died in Florida in 1979.  I have found George was still alive in 1958 as he travelled back to the UK for a visit arriving 1st Mar 1958.  I haven't found him returning but there is a tree online that states he died in Florida on 17th Dec 1958.  I can't find any evidence to back it up though.

Any help to track down what became of him would be great.

Brilliant!  ;D

I managed to find a reference to his sister Elizabeth Craig Burlington's probate being managed by her sister Isabella Kirkpatrick Burlington in 1990 so I guess she died in 1989/90 and Isabella definitely after that.  No sign of death notices for them though.

Thanks again Debra; that's one mystery cracked!  :)

Thanks so much Debra - that's great  :)

It was her husband Robert Whitehead Cullen Burlington's death I was hoping her notice would mention and it does!  I knew he was still alive in 1980 but have not found a death notice listed on Ryerson for him.  At least I now know he died in July 1985.  Thanks again; much appreciated.

Thanks very much for any help.

The Common Room / Allan BOGLE Mysteries
« on: Tuesday 21 June 16 16:23 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to find out what happened to two men named Allan Bogle - a father and son.  The father was apparently born around 1817 in Glasgow, Scotland.  His parents may have been Allan Bogle and Agnes Lyon but I haven't been able to fully confirm that.  He married Ann McPherson in South Leith in 1847.  Ann and their first child Catherine are on the 1851 census without Allan and I have been unable to find him on that census at all.  I have found him in 1861 (name wrongly given as Alexander) and 1871 though.  He worked as a boilermaker.  Then in 1873 his wife Ann died in Glasgow - she was not listed as a widow on her death certificate so I presume he was still alive at that time.  His daughter Annie got married in 1875 and listed him as deceased then.  I have been unable to find any sign of his death in Scotland.

Secondly his son Allan Bogle was born 16 Jun 1858 in Partick.  I've found him on the 1861 and 1871 census - in 1871 he was in the Glasgow Reformatory Institution and Boy's House of Refuge as a Young Offender.  I can find no sign of him at all after 1871 in Scotland though.  As I can't find a death I'm hoping he perhaps emigrated but I haven't been able to find a passenger list or anything else to track him down.

If anyone can spot anything I may have missed I'd be grateful - thanks.

Hi RayDen - thanks for the help.  I've already come across and eliminated this Hugh previously; he's not the same Hugh.  This one was born in Coatbridge on 16 May 1896.  There are a number of trees on A that incorrectly mix this Ohio Hugh up with the New Jersey Hugh who was married to Alice.  Thanks.
