Thank you again for your reply Treetotal, I really appreciate your help very much.

Would you (or anyone else) be able to guess at this man's profession?  Any hints or clues about his clothing, props in the frame, anything at all - most welcome!

I would very much appreciate as much information about this photo as possible.  Unknown woman, unknown age.  No marking visible on the rear of the photo - it would seem that it was glue-mounted at one time within a frame.
Is the embossed border pattern on the card mount, recognizable?
Unknown photo location; though it's likely that this photo originates from Northumberland or Berwickshire.

Thanks for the feedback!  That was also my reaction looking at the photo.  How about an age of 41 for him, occupation Farm Servant and her age as 28?
If that fits, then there aren't many other alternatives; I think this may be my great great grandfather William Frisken born 1818.

Thank you for the quick reply!

Would you (or anyone else out there reading this!) wish to make a guess at the ages of the man and woman?  And perhaps his social status or occupation?

I am assuming that they're married, due to her pose and the resting of the arm on his shoulder.  I still can't make out what he's holding - a tobacco tin?

Unknown individuals.  Photo date unknown.

Is the man perhaps related to the individual George Frisken from the first photo [1]?  Was the photo taken outdoors, rather than indoors?

No identifying marks on rear of photo.

An unknown individual.

Photo taken by Donald Morgan (born Thurso, Caithness about 1833) living in  Kirkwall, who appears in 1851 and 1861 Kirkwall census as simply 'watchmaker' and then 1871 census as 'Watchmaker & Photographer'.  Last known census entry for 1881 in Kirkwall 'Watchmaker empl 1 man & 1 appr'.  I haven't traced Donald further to establish any timeline for his business.

Dear photograph experts,

I am trying to identify all the individuals in a set of old photographs I was given of the Frisken family.  For background;  I am doing a One Name Study of the Frisken family and about 18 months later, I already have an extensive tree of the known individuals and their relatives.  Almost all Friskens from 1750 to present day are located in a large tree with at present three disconnected branches.

I would like to date and if possible give a location to all photos; any hints or tips on the subjects, their clothing or other clues are most welcome!  Estimates of ages of all individuals would be appreciated.  I have little experience with old photography so please assume I am a raw beginner in this area.  I've only scanned at 300dpi - please let me know if this isn't sufficient and I'll re-scan as necessary.

I can start with two photos of known individuals, to give context perhaps  As far as I'm aware, this collection of photos was handed down through the generations to the great grandson of George Frisken (1810-1894) and Isabella Barclay (1816-1905).  George and Isabella feature in this first photo with their two youngest (of 11) children, William Frisken (1857-1939) and Jessie Frisken (1859-1946).
This is George on my Ancestry family tree if you're interested: http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/69129966/family?cfpid=42198060948
I estimate the date of the photo at about 1870, does this seem correct, given the ages of the people?

And one small question, how many photos may I post here, without it being considered annoying spam?  There are some excellent photos complete with rear identifying stamps to perhaps help other forum users; but I don't wish to monopolize the experts :-)

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

Berwickshire / Re: Potographer in Coldstream
« on: Thursday 10 December 15 00:06 GMT (UK)  »
I found this one among a collection of old various FRISKEN family photos.  I'm doing a One Name Study of this family name - please let me know if you have any clues as to the individual.  I have further information and a large tree of all the associated families in the area of Coldstream at the time the photo was likely to have been taken.

It would be very useful to know if the photographer John Foster used different logos on the rear of the prints during his time in Coldstream.
