London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Re: Beach girls and beach boys!
« on: Sunday 09 August 20 12:43 BST (UK)  »
Thank you josie.
Yes, that's the tricky thing.  Sometimes I find a possibility but to be certain I have to find all three because the surname is relatively common.
Sarah and Thomas died before the 1851 census when they might have said where they were born.  If Rebecca survived beyond that census we might narrow the field down
They are so jolly elusive!!
With kind regards,
Kirk

Thank you, amondg, I hadn't spotted that one.

Hello fellow rootschatters,

I have a genealogical problem that perhaps someone might be able to help me with.  It is certainly a riddle that I cannot solve although the answer may be right under my nose and I can't see it!  :)

There were once three siblings with the surname Beach: Sarah, Rebecca, and Thomas.  I have no idea who their parents were, or when and where they were born.  These are the facts that I do know:

All three siblings were married within the parish church of St George in the East and were witnesses at each other's weddings.

Rebecca
Born ?
Married 1809 James Gower (dates unknown)
Nothing further is known.

Sarah (my ancestress)
Born c.1783/1784
Married 1814 William Tristram Carver (1785-?)
Member of the Wesleyan Chapel in St George in the East
Died 1850 aged 66 and buried within the Wesleyan section of St George in the East Cemetery.
Known children: William Tristram Carver and Martha Carver

Thomas
Born c.1784/1785
A Cork Cutter
Married 1814 Elizabeth Wright (c.1782-1847)
Died 1842 aged 58 and buried within the Wycliffe Congregational Chapel Burial Ground (WCCBC).
Known children: John Alexander Beach and Lydia Beach

I've spent ages trying to locate the parents of these three siblings so any help would be very welcome!

With kind regards,

Kirk

Thanks Ambly,

That is super and sorts out something I suspected because Richard and Martha (nee Tristram) Carver are my ancestors and I had a feeling that Eleanor and Edward were their siblings who had migrated to London from Shropshire.  Next time I sign up to one of the pay sites I shall try and get a copy of the record for myself.
That's made my day!
Cheers

Hello fellow rootschatters,
I have discovered that a Eleanor Tristram married Edward Carver at St Botolph Aldgate on 16 September 1777 and I am very interested to find out who the witnesses are as this may lead me to other family members.

With kind regards,

Kirk

Well that's interesting, Mike.  I found a baptism for a Joseph Hay the son of Isaac Hay in 1730 using the IGI.  The mother's name is Marie Susanne Baillot.
Of course this all has to be a) proven correct and b)have evidence to show that he is my Joseph Hayes.
Still, it's a start!

That's interesting, Mike.

At least it's something to go on and inquirer in to further.  Was there a year associated with this record?

With kind regards,

Kirk

Hello Mike,

I am fairly sure that the term 'weaver' came from a baptism but I can't find it at present.  It certainly wasn't on their last child's baptism.  Perhaps I have confused this with another ancestor.

With kind regards,

Kirk

London and Middlesex / Joseph Hayes: weaver 1750s

Good evening,

I have had some great help on Rootschat in my short time here so now I have another question to ask if I may.

I am looking for information on Joseph Hayes.  I do not know a lot about him at this stage.
I do know that he was a weaver and that he married Rebecca Peales in 1756.  He had a relative named Peter who may have been his father or a brother as this person was a witness to Joseph and Rebecca's marriage.

Joseph and Rebecca had at least four children: Mary b 1757 Joseph b 1760 Martha (1764-1765) and my ancestress Martha (1766-1851).

This is all I know.  I think that they lived in Bishopsgate but I am not sure.  I know neither when Joseph and Rebecca were born, nor when they died.

Is anyone able to assist me with these tricky, shadowy, ancestors?

With kind regards,

Kirk
