My great, great, great grandmother was Marie Lawless, who married James Quirk. She was also refered to as Marie Lawlor on her son's death certificate. This confused us also, because my mom had always heard the name was Lawless, and then Lawlor showed up on the death certificate we got a few years ago.
Family story has that she was the daughter of a Lord and Lady. She married James, who worked for the family as a chaueffeur (horse & buggy). She was disowned by her Parents because she married beneath her station in life. Marie Lawless would have been born in the early 1800's. I don't know where they were from in Ireland.
Another story is that her Family ran a big Flour Mill, & that they founded
some Group of Irish Players.
Marie died in Ireland, and James Quirk brought his children to the US in the late 1840's or early 1850's. They settled in Chicago.
