Renfrewshire / Re: Mary Jane Henderson buried Greenock 1880

Hi Blemdookie:  Thank you so much for the information, however, despite the Henderson and Lilias names, James cannot be a sibling to Archibald.  I have Archie's death certificate showing his parents as Duncan McIntyre and Sarah McCallum.  Their eldest son was also a Duncan and he's buried in Greenock too with his brother John.  So frustrating when you think you've found something and it doesn't pan out in the end. I don't have any Daniel McIntyres on my tree. Thanks again anyway.

Hi Blemdookie:  I also couldn't find a birth certificate for John Alexander Henderson McIntyre but his death certificate mentioned that he died at the Sir Gabriel Wood's Mariners' Home in Greenock.  I wrote to them and they very kindly forwarded me all the information they had on him.  It mentioned that he was admitted on September 4, 1925 and his last birthday had been on December 1, 1924 when he turned 77 years old.  Other family members were mentioned which confirmed that he was the right person.  Presumably no birth record as it was prior to 1855 and wasn't compulsory.

Hi Imber:  Thanks for your help.  Under Kirsty's name there are four blue icons, one of which is for email which is what I used.  Apparently she did receive my email but it went into her "junk box". She has replied to me privately now, so we are in touch.

Thanks again though.

Regards, Genetrix

Thanks so much Celiamcd for your kind offer.  I did however, visit the cemetery late last year while on a trip and found the site.  There wasn't a headstone but at least I did find the right grave. What a huge place that is and so hilly.  You wonder how they managed to carry caskets to some of those plots.  A lovely place though.

Thanks again.

Renfrewshire / Anyone Visiting Greenock Cemetery?

My great grandfather and his brother are buried in Lair 212, Section 2N, Greenock Cemetery.  Names are John and Duncan McIntyre.  I wanted to know if there is a headstone and wrote to the office there but they didn't answer.  I have a map and it seems to be in the Forsyth Street Gate area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Genetrix

Thanks Falkyrn:  I've changed my setting on SP to Direct Download and it was much faster. Don't know what I'd do without RootsChat.

Technical Help / Viewer Applets

I use the Scotland's People website a lot and have been using the JAVA viewer.  This morning I got a pop-up message saying my JAVA was out of date and to download the latest version.  I did this with no problems until I tried viewing one of my previous searches when a box popped up asking if I wanted to run ViewONE (I don't know what this is) but at the bottom it had a warning saying "running this application may put your computer and personal information at risk".  I obviously don't want that to happen, so declined, but on closing the window I still couldn't view the page I wanted.  Scotland's People say the viewer has nothing to do with them and that I could use a different one.  Any advice would be welcome.
